Kevin Feige Says IRON MAN 3 Won't Be What We Are Expecting

The Marvel Pres promises a "very unique" outing for The Armored Avenger in his upcoming threequel, and says the story will find Tony Stark a "changed individual"..

After two solo movies and an appearance in The Avengers, fans might figure they pretty much know what to expect from a Marvel Iron Man flick. But while speaking to ABC News, Kevin Feige suggests that along with a new director in Shane Black, we can also expect a different approach to the material..

“It’s going to be very different, very unique and I think not ascribe to any specific formula that they think they may have pegged us on. It’s all in the story. It’s where you take Tony Stark on his journey in an unexpected way and have him come out of the Avengers a slightly changed individual, which people will see when they see the movie.

I believe each movie, whether it’s a new character movie or the sequel to an existing character movie, needs to have its own set, its own formula, its own rules.”

From what we already know of the movie, it certainly sounds intriguing. Word hit last week that Sir Ben Kingsley was in talks (though still unconfirmed by Marvel) to play (one of) the villains, and the plot is said to be based on the very popular "Extremis" arc from the comics. Be sure to tune in and check out the full interview with The Avengers cast on “Nightline” TONIGHT at 11:35 p.m. ET.

I expect the best from Iron Man 3, also Ruffalo should be apart of it since he won't get his own solo movie

Hiring Shane Black is the best decision they've made since hiring Joss Whedon. Black and RDJ work amazingly together.

long shot that this will be good. NO super hero has appeared in 4 good movies without a reboot in the mix somewhere.

Sounds good. the post avengers films should be taking new directions and leading into a major event not just a team up. More intertwining stories rather than cameo scenes at the end

So...what happened to suspecting everything Kevin Feige says?

I expect good acting, an amazeballs CBM, and some semblance of loyalty to the Extremis storyline.

Like how much change are we talking here?

Seriously though, there is lots of potential for a cool story.

@Stigmartyr: I agree, I think that was the CBM quick version.

I get the vibe this will be every bit as good as the first. I'm liking every new tid-bit that drops.

Regarding IM2, for a long while I felt the same as many, that it just wasn't as good as the first. By the time Cap came out, I began to look at it differently. It was indeed a sort of Avengers prequel as much as it was an Iron Man movie, but whereas we all thought it to be a bad idea to sacrifice the individual story for the overarching plot, I'm now beginning to feel it served its intended purpose. It is a much better film when viewed with the whole and I feel that is what was intended.

@EsseXFactor - Seeing IM2 today I can see the main point was to make Stark a bit less douchy. His condition, problems with the father and acceptance on shield are the focus here.

There's also a villain to complicate things but that's not the main thing. You can see that Vanko has a parallel storyline through the movie while Stark tries to cure himself and also understands his father in the process, and that says a lot.

Better movie if seen today IMO, also.

@SpiderFan35 - dude if you're talking about those who complained about the spoilers, sorry but I was glad not to have that info before.

If you're talking about the dude who's spoiling, forget this comment ;P

Watching Iron Man again this weekend, it really struck me how whiney Howard's voice was, especially in the scene where he finds Tony after Stane removed the mini-arc reactor.

@Ironman53 - I am not shocked that Rhodey is not involved with the Avengers, and glad he isn't. Already pushing the envelope with so many lead charactors. Besides, Rhodey was first and foremost an Iron Man supporting charactor, not an Avenger. Now in a Avengers sequel, I wouldn't mind seeing him pop-up, but again, not as an Avenger.

@fogs: lol, that was most certainly aimed at those that think they are cool by dropping spoilers, I'm with you.

I try to avoid things that look spoilerish, but putting that shit in comments on a thread that is not even directly about the movie is pure douchebaggery.

i say let one of those spaceships in the avengers somehow drop off those power rings. so we get the iron man movie we all want. (the rings are tech based not magic like some think just saying)and i think you all know who most want to see fight iron man

I'm intrigued by IM3. I hope that they take Tony a bit out of his element. I am totally on board to the possibility that Ruffalo is somehow involved in this movie.

Why no War Machine in The Avengers? Easy, he is with the Air Force and not attached to S.H.I.E.L.D.

As long as it doesnt have nothing to do with he becoming a "real" superhero with the help of that nano serum or he becoming a dad! Im fine!

More serious/dramatic tone would be great!
Ben Kingsley´s character (which i hope is Mandarin) kicking Tony´s life upside down with his ruthless henchman Ghost, Ezekiel Stane, Spymaster, Beetle etc.
...And maybe killing Pepper Potts or something.
