The winner (@Jasper_UTF, a.k.a. MovieMaster) of our recent Iron Man 3 contest - in which we offered one lucky fan the chance to interview Shane Black and Drew Pearce - has gotten back to us with some highlights from their chat and they include some very interesting tidbits of information! In this latest instalment, the duo reveal that they at one point considered including Fin Fang Foom (who appeared in Jon Favreau's short-lived Marvel Cinematic Universe set Iron Man: Viva Las Vegas series) in the threequel before incorporating the giant creature into the movie another way.

Because Fin Fang Foom has been hinted at in the other films, did you have any thoughts of putting Fin Fang Foom into it?

Drew: I think we toyed around with it at some points.

Shane: Well, the chest is Fin Fang Foom...

Drew: And on the inside of his cape-

Shane: But that's not really in the movie, it's more in the trailer.

Drew: It isn't!?

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

We've seen tons of crazy things in the MCU, would a giant dragon really be too much?

he'd probably would of been fin fang foom all the way through & then reveal he was pete's dragon. :P

Maybe they should have considered using the Mandarin instead...

This twist at the end is really tearing this site apart. Yeah it sucks but I am still seeing this movie next week.

They would've done the FFF route if they cared at all about this being an epic movie. Instead we'll get a slightly better IM2.

People here are pathetic. You haven't seen the film, to see the twist get played out in the context of the film... Mandarin is not an iconic character anyway, and has been portrayed in very different ways. Don't judge something you haven't seen.

The MCU is world inhabited by Giant Gamma-radiated men, Asgardian gods, super soldiers and aliens, so would it really have been so difficult to a Chinese martial arts expert with rings that gave him powers? Seriously, post-Avengers Marvel should've opened the floodgates and included all kinds of fantastical shit in Phase 2 films, I'm not even that big a Iron Man fan but the twist seriously pissed me off...
TonyChu

@teabag Almost every MOS article has DC fanboys raving about it and saying this movie will suck. And now every IM3 article it's the same thing. Give the movie a chance word is it is still good but just has that shitty twist.
TonyChu
TonyChu - 4/22/2013, 1:29 PM
@LMB10 yeah I agree but that twist does indeed suck. Even if I saw it in theaters with no prior knowledge of it, I still would have said this is some old bullshit.

Save it for Iron Man 4 or 5.

@LMB10

I concur. The twist, as I stated elsewhere here...I think it's a great idea. Would have been way more satisfying to have learned it in the context of the film, but oh well. I was weak.

I try to let it go since it seems like a lot of the whiners are just underage people who simply have little to get upset about in their lives. And that's fine, everyone goes through that.

@LMB10 exactly the Mandarin was not even a person in the ultimate universe, instead he was a villain for the Iron Man animated show within the ultimate universe and then later an enemy organization. So really its just the nolanites who do not have a clue and want to hate the film who are complaining.
Bumble
Bumble - 4/22/2013, 1:37 PM
@Albert...totally agree. very well said. that "silly stuff" has been tried before; see joel schumaker. i'm not saying that FFF or the mandarin can't be done in a more realistic, plausible way but a giant chinese dragon and a stereotyped asian with magic rings can be a little hard to swallow.

It's also ridiculous that people are bashing a movie that they HAVE NOT SEEN YET. Why not give the movie and Marvel a chance by actually watching the movie before you start bashing it. Take the time to actually watch what you're criticizing before jump to a conclusion. Who knows, you just might like it.
marvel72
marvel72 - 4/22/2013, 1:38 PM
@ LMB10

hey i'm still gonna watch it,its really the first time i have been disappointed in marvel studios.

i'm sure the rest of the film is fine its just the f*ckin twist.

also the mandarin is iconic in the iron man comic universe, just as the green goblin is to spider-man or the red skull to captain america or even loki to thor.

@ Young Thanos...Gambled and lost a lot of momentum? Ummm....didn't they just put out the third highest grossing movie of all time last year? Was that real or was I just off in never, never land again?
MightyZeus
MightyZeus - 4/22/2013, 1:42 PM
Your forgetting a lot of films based on adaptations change there characters, plots, settings from the source material in order to improve the film, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
Since people are bashing Iron Man 3 for the changes why not look at The Dark Knight Rises or The Man of Steel.
Vaportrail
Vaportrail - 4/22/2013, 1:44 PM
A dragon would be a bit much.

I can understand the Asgardians and space aliens. They worked those in pretty nicely by establishing the realms in Thor.

How do you explain a dragon, which presumably would've been here all along?
Shadowmaster35
Shadowmaster35 - 4/22/2013, 1:44 PM
I expected to see something symbolizing FFF in this movie but not the actual dragon himself. Woulda been cool tho.

Fing Fang Foom in Iron Man 3. ...¡¡¡COOL!!!
MightyZeus
MightyZeus - 4/22/2013, 1:45 PM
People where hating Bane because of the way he looked, too small, too short, not enough muscle, there's no venom. Everyone still praised the film.
Also in The Avenger's they changed the cube's abilities, they changed the chitauri they where meant to be shapeshifters ect.
You cant just have a negative opinion on a characters change with out seeing the film.
TheSisko
TheSisko - 4/22/2013, 1:46 PM
@Batmaniac I do not judge by name or avatar but by what they actually say. I am not accusing them specfically but you quite clearly are a nolanite who badly wants this movie to fail that you waste everyone's time with baiting comments. So I am done with you.

I say screw "being grounded and realistic", these are comic book movies!

The Avengers was the least realistic Marvel movie so far and it made a zillion dollars.
BANE5000
BANE5000 - 4/22/2013, 1:55 PM
I dont get why Fing Fang Foom would've been to fantastical to include in the film...Didnt Tony just get done battling aliens and giant flying creatures from another part of space and flying a nuke through an inter-dimensional wormhole...but naw, Fing Fang Foom would be to much I suppose...LoL
Bumble
Bumble - 4/22/2013, 1:58 PM
@JaySin...I've grew up in the time of un-grounded comic book movies. You sir! Do not want to experience that crap nor do I! If I ever see George Clooney, Bat nipples or Bat Credit Cards again it will be far too soon! Be happy that we're experiencing what we are experiencing now. Comic book movies are at the top of the list. And if not for those "grounded" movies, you wouldn't have had the chance to get the master piece that was avengers last year.

@ Young Thanos...you still bought it/rented it on Blue Ray. WB still got their money.
