We could learn what the future holds for Marvel Studios and Lucasfilm as soon as this Thursday.  Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Disney will reveal new MCU and Star Wars projects to its shareholders during its special Investor Day event.

It's also expected that Disney will respond to Warner Bros. unprecedented move to simultaneously release all of its 2021 films on HBO Max and in theaters. While WB is stating that this tactic is only a result of the pandemic and uncertainty surrounding how vaccinations will be distributed next year, movie industry analysts are unanimously  stating that it will be impossible to put lid back on this can of worms once opened.

With Warner Bros. releasing Wonder Woman 1984 on HBO Max and theaters simultaneously in a few weeks, most fans and industry insiders expect Disney to do something similar with Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.  During the event, Disney is expected to reverse theatrical release plans for Tom Hanks' Pinocchio, Peter Pan and  Emma Stone's Cruella, slating those projects for Disney+.

Thursday could also bring updates on release plans for several upcoming Marvel films including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Eternals, the Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Black Panther II, and the Captain Marvel sequel. Other projects that could be touched on include Guardians of the Galaxy 3, Blade, Ant-Man 3. If Disney, really wants to make some noise and steal the spotlight back from WB and HBO Max, the company could reveal plans for the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

On the Star Wars side, Disney could reveal plans for future Mandalorian spinoffs as well as provide updates on the Cassian Andor Rogue One prequel and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The Disney Investor Day 2020 webcast is scheduled for December 10 at 4:30 p.m. ET / 1:30 p.m PT and is expected to last four hours.

As I said before, Disney had been promising to lay out the details to their direct-to-consumer entertainment shift on this investor day event for months, and yet WB dropping their announcement the week before made it so that Disney’s announcements will be labeled as a “response” to WB in all the press about it, and therefore get even more coverage of WB’s move.

It was a pretty slick PR move, regardless of what you think about WB’s plans.

@Chewtoy - was getting sued by their partner companies part of their brilliant PR strategy too?

@Chewtoy - the move is actually straight out of Kevin Feiges’ playbook

@XMenGiveItToYa - That part would fall under the “regardless of what you think about WB’s plans”.

Doing it at all might have been a huge mistake (and doing it without first negotiating with your filmmaking partners might have been a huge legal one) but the PR team certainly maximized the coverage of the stunt.

I feel like enough has been announced MCU-wise IMO. I can't keep up anymore lol, especially with the Disney+ shows.

I think they should just provide clarity on movies already announced that are further down the line like Blade.

@Kurne - I feel like they’ve both announced enough honestly. Although the a lot of the lucasfilm stuff has been rumored or not officially announced. So maybe they’re just going to be making things more official with release dates. But yeah, I think marvel especially needs to take a breather until we can start getting a steady flow of content again.

Honestly, and its not Marveks fault, but the TV side of things is where my interest lies till this pandemic thing ends. Any and all movie announcements, on general not just Marvel, to me feels like empty promises without legit release dates...whether that be theater or streaming.

For the love of God, can I just get something solid about the X-Men?

I'm hoping for some titles and a more concrete release date schedule, both for movies and shows. Would be happy with a trailer or something like that too

Do they typically release trailers in these calls? Last I remember, it's going to be just a slew of announcements and updates to keep Wall Street happy. I'm largely interested on any updates they have on their streaming plans (e.g. the rumored Hulu-Disney+ merge, their plans for Sky).

@Vanillain - Good question. I've never watched one, but it is scheduled to be about four hours long, so maybe they will have some scenes from movies and shows they can show the investors to help fill the time, keep them from falling asleep, and to get them more excited about investing.

Why not do a fan centric event like DC did in August 🤦‍♂️
