Martin Scorsese recently suggested that Marvel movies were "not cinema," and now another celeb is taking a similar stance.
During an interview with
Variety, former
Friends actress Jennifer Aniston (
Murder Mystery) said that she feels the movie industry is “diminishing” thanks in no small part to the sheer amount of Marvel movies hitting the big screen year after year.
“You’re seeing what’s available out there and it’s just diminishing and diminishing in terms of, it’s big Marvel movies," she exclaimed.
"Or things that I’m not just asked to do, or really that interested in living in a green screen."
We'll assume she's referring to all superhero blockbusters here and doesn't have a specific problem with The MCU, but who knows! Maybe Aniston lost out on a big Marvel role or is simply bitter about not being offered one, as she alludes to above.
In all seriousness, this is not the first time someone has blamed the death of cinema on superheros, and it won't be the last. The problem with that opinion is, cinema is doing just fine. Aniston may not feel there are enough smaller, character-driven dramas or comedies out there to counter the dreaded CG-drenched onslaught of capes, but maybe she's simply not looking hard enough?
