Midnight Spider-Man #1 Comes Under Fire For Panel Drawn From The POV Of Black Cat's Breasts

That headline has probably given you pause for thought, but yes, Midnight Spider-Man #1 really does feature a panel that's illustrated from the point of view of Felicia Hardy's cleavage.

Marvel Comics has released only three comics today: Midnight X-Men, Midnight Fantastic Four, and Midnight Spider-Man. The horror-themed line is the publisher's response to DC Comics' Absolute titles, though fans are understandably sceptical about becoming invested in an Ultimate Universe that lasted only two years.

Each series puts a wild new spin on the characters fans know and love, with Midnight Spider-Man going to some very dark places. However, following the comic's midnight launch, some readers have taken issue with an admittedly bizarre panel by artist ScieTronc.

When the young Peter Parker meets the Midnight Universe's Felicia Hardy, she's shown in a revealing low-cut top. That's arguably par for the course with this character, but things take an odd turn when we're shown events from the point of view of Black Cat's breasts.

There have been some grumbles about the fact that Peter is a teenager and Felicia is an adult in this scenario. Still, the biggest sticking point for many fans is the decision to, in their opinion, use such an unnecessarily sexualised piece of imagery with a female character.

Perhaps this is just Midnight Spider-Man leaning into horror movie tropes—look at Elvira, for example—but this could become as infamous as that panel showing a miniaturised Hank Pym standing between Janet Van Dyne's breasts in the pages of The Avengers.

In Midnight Spider-Man, a young Peter Parker is transformed into a hideous spider hybrid by the ruthless Oscorp Corporation in their pursuit of eternal life. When Oscorp begins to use the secrets unlocked by his mutation to create more human-animal hybrids, Peter embraces his grotesque new form to stop them.

In Midnight X-Men, the shadows of New York City are stalked by vampires and the mutant empyres. The sword of Damocles hangs over the peace between these two species and the factions within them. An outright war is brewing, and the unturned will be caught in the crossfire.

Then, in Midnight Fantastic Four, an obsessive scientist delves into the secrets of the universe, perhaps best left unknown to mankind, leaving himself and three others warped in strange and horrifying ways. What horrible secrets lie in the new dimensions they have discovered? And can humanity survive the discovery?

Check out this controversial Midnight Spider-Man panel below.

But of course NOT when it comes to all the violence, hand to hand combat, usage of various fire-arms, lasers, heck even bio weapons. 🥳🥳🕺🕺

The funny thing is, they found a way to depict them in the least sexy way imaginable.

A long, long time ago, in a city far away I was in Film School. We had to shoot two scenes from a random script. One of the scenes was 2 people examining a head wound on another person. I had a fx friend make a little thing to put over the camera to make the shot like it was from the pov of the head wound, so the camera was the "wound" and the 2 acrors were peering into it.
THIS looks a LOT better than that did.

I think it's more meant to be from Felicia's POV rather than the POV of her breasts.

This is also not a big deal at all and further proof that modern open-minded folks are far bigger prudes than even the loudest holy-roller Karen of the 90's that complained about over sexualization in comics.

@tRuckRogers46A - All it takes is one person complaining to create the illusion of "division" and "backlash"!!!

Honestly, I expect nothing less. I mean, this has been a problem for many years. I guess I'm going to be the prude that these "open-minded" folks today would call me, because comic book creators have always drawn female characters in comics to look like hookers/exotic dancers because that is what draws in all the lonely fanboys to buy their comics. Women complain about being sexualized, but yet, almost every female comic character is drawn to look like they are waiting for someone to put dollar bills down their cleavage or in the waistband of their skimpy costume. But I digress, because this is the norm and nothing will ever change. SMH

@fosdog - is this still a "problem" though if most male characters in comics from the last 30+ years have also been sexualized? Both genders in comics consistently present unrealistic body standards, revealing costumes and impossible postures. Why isn't it a problem when tens of thousands of romance novels aimed at women feature ripped, shirtless men on their covers? Are those readers "lonely fangirls"?

First of all, This is the first I've seen of this "backlash" considering all the comic pages I follow on all socials, so no this isn't a thing. Secondly, I'm sorry, are we really saying this is too far? We get the swimsuit variant covers, and the countless costumes worn by female characters over the decades, that are basically lingerie. I mean, you want to look at a modern comic, look up the Weapons Honey covers.

Also, did anyone actually read these yet? This is a very dark pocket universe they're building. Lots of gore, lots of dark themes. If anything I think people will be more pissed about a panel that appears in the first 4 pages, that has to do with a pet.

I picked up Spider-Man and X-Men last night at my LCS midnight launch. Both first issues were awesome. They seing for the fences when going for this balls to the wall horror take. Really excited to see where these go. My only complaint, is that I'm not huge on the art style for Spider-Man, but it grew on me throughout the issue. I'm not kidding when I say that my jaw dropped about 1/3 into both issues and stayed open until the end with a loud WTF at the conclusions (in a good way)

@JabbaTheSus - Here are three examples of people complaining about this that took me less than a minute to find. It even has a "Midnight Spider-Man Panel Draws Mixed Reactions from Fans" section on X. Research matters.
