Ryan Reynolds' Team-Up Movie Could Be Alpha Flight; May Introduce The MCU's New Wolverine

Last year, the trades confirmed that Deadpool and Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds was in the process of writing a new movie that would feature the Merc with a Mouth along with "three or four" X-Men characters.

We had assumed that this must be an X-Force movie, but we're now hearing that the project could actually be based on Alpha Flight.

According to Cartier Films, the film "could either fold into Deadpool 4 or stand on its own. And yes, they’re looking at an actor who could potentially debut as the new Wolverine."

Hugh Jackman will return as Logan in Avengers: Doomsday and is expected to appear in Secret Wars. Some scoopers believe that he may have signed on for at least one more MCU project in the Mutant Saga, but by the time this Alpha Flight film (if that's what it is) rolls around, it may indeed be time to introduce a new take on Ol' Canucklehead.

Alpha Flight, Canada's premier superhero team, debuted in the pages of Uncanny X-Men #120 back in 1979. Wolverine was a member of the original team, then known as The Flight, along with Groundhog, Snowbird, St. Elmo, Stitch, and Smart Alec. The later lineup included Guardian, Northstar, Aurora, Sasquatch, Shaman, and Puck.

The long-awaited X-Men reboot is finally starting to take shape, with Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier set to helm and writers Sonny Lee Sung Jin (Beef) and Joanna Calo (The Bear) currently working on a new draft of Michael Lesslie's script.

More recently, the main cast of the long-awaited movie was announced at D23, with Sadie Sink set to reprise her Spider-Man: Brand New Day role as Jean Grey, alongside Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Nathan Milbury/Mr. Sinister.

We'd later learn that Gen V and Scream 7 star Asa Germann will play Angel. Beast and Ice-Man are also expected to round out the original team of five from the comics, and a recent rumor claimed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms star Peter Claffey has landed the role of the MCU's Hank McCoy.

Kevin Feige teased Marvel's plans for the X-Men shortly after SDCC.

"Acquiring the X-Men rights isn't just about... for example, Wolverine is an outstanding character, and we were able to team him up with Deadpool, which is great. But the X-Men are far more than just Wolverine, far more than the original team; fundamentally, it's a universe, a multi-stage saga. Much of that is what we're working towards."

"We’re constantly changing, constantly evolving, but having some guidance helps us act more purposefully, especially with X-Men—it’s already had 10 movies, some very, very good, some I think haven’t lived up to expectations—how do we plan the 'mutant saga' in a very grand way?"

"That being said, we have many more characters to explore in the future—the schedule is already booked until 2042, especially the X-Men," Feige added. "The X-Men have many unexplored characters from the Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, which we're very eager to explore. That's why I'm excited about the X-Men: we can show the world different types of heroes."

I wouldn't mind an Alpha Flight project, as it'd be cool to see a live-action Puck and Sasquatch in the MCU.

Not to mention, we never got an MCU movie that showcased Logan leading his own superhero team before he joined the X-Men.

@woderwick - nah those Canadians are always bragging about

🏥 Healthcare & Lifestyle

• Universal Healthcare: No medical bankruptcies; coverage is tied to residency, not your job.
• Longer Life Expectancy: Canadians live an average of three to four years longer than Americans.
• Paid Parental Leave: Up to 18 months of job-protected, government-subsidized leave.

🎓 Education & Economy

• Affordable University: Domestic tuition averages $7,000–$9,000 CAD per year, a fraction of U.S. costs.
• Elite, Cheap Schools: World-class institutions (U of T, McGill, UBC) without Ivy League price tags.
• Banking Stability: Heavily regulated banks that completely avoided the 2008 financial crash.
• Higher Social Mobility: Statistically easier to achieve the "American Dream" in Canada.
• Polymer Currency: Waterproof, tear-resistant bills that include braille-like tactile features.

🍺 Food, Drink, & Culture

• Better Beer: Higher average alcohol content (5% ABV) and fewer cheap corn/rice fillers.
• Exclusive Snacks: Ketchup chips, All-Dressed chips, authentic poutine, and Nanaimo bars.
• Real Maple Syrup: Canada produces over 70% of the global supply; no fake high-fructose syrup.

🛑 Everyday Differences

• The Metric System: Simple base-10 math for weather, distance, and everyday calculations.
• Safer Communities: Significantly lower violent crime and gun-related homicide rates.

And when they travel they actually say they're Canadian. Unlike those Americans. I met an American in France who told me, "I'm not actually Canadian. I'm American but I'm afraid they'll spit in my food."

Thinking more about this, keep the new Wolverine on Alpha Flight and let the X-Men breathe without him. He always outshines the X-Men and Alpha Flight always needed some star power.
TheVisionary25
TheVisionary25 - 11/2/2026, 5:10 PM
@Magus - I wouldn’t mind if they keep him on Alpha Flight and/or do a solo project for him initially but I do think he should join the X-Men after that since it would be enough of a gap imo to let the other characters shine.

It should be X-Force. Deadpool has been on X-Force. But, Reynolds is Canadian so he might want to do Alpha Flight. I hope not. Making Alpha Flight into a comedy would be a waste of material.

An Alpha Flight movie sounds amazing, Ryan Reynolds involvement sounds like a total nightmare cluster fluck.

Used to LOVE Deadpool as a character, was crazy about the idea of Ryan playing the role. He killed it at first, but then it very quickly became a forced cash grab.

Like Sony, Ryan will continue to pump out mediocre movies as long as fanboys are willing to trade their depreciating cash to watch slop.

I’m over Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan and Deadpool. Beyond ready to move on, and recast. Hopefully sooner than later.

Today I buried my dolphin-frog Xanumus who was with me since hashtagfakecovid. Xanumus was wonderful and spent everyday trying to learn the English language to communicate with me because they was Greek. Her passion was oceanography and his past-time was hopscotch.
I'm very sad. I dug a 5ft hole, dumped a half-pound of salt and 3 petunias in, plus a comicbook of Prime Superboy and then the body. After filling in the hole i took two thick sticks, bound them together with twine in the shape of a crossed "X," and put it in the ground as a tombstone. They will forever be remembered as X-People.
I am now sitting down to a dinner of fried whale blubber and chocolate chip muffin. Gonna be hard to sleep tonight...oh, wait! .... here's the absinthe. Just smelling it is kicking my ass. Ass-Men.

Love ALpha Flight! ever since they introduce Vindicator (Guardian) in X-Men #109 and really, really want to see the team brought to live action in a movie.

But I don't want to see them introduced into the MCU via Deadpool. Let them be in their own movie and introduce the MCU Wolverine in their movie, but leave for the X-men at the end.

Ironically, I always thought Hugh Jackman would made a Better James Hudson (Vindicator/Guardian) than Wolverine.
