MEN IN BLACK Spinoff Finds Its New Leader In BATMAN BEGINS Star Liam Neeson
Sony's upcoming Men In Black spinoff has found its new director in Academy Award-nominated actor Liam Neeson. The former Batman Begins star will join a cast headlined by Chris Hemsworth & Tessa Thompson.
Variety is reporting that Sony Pictures is currently in advanced negotiations with Academy Award-nominee Liam Neeson (The Commuter) to join their upcoming Men In Black spinoff, which will star Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson in the lead roles. While details on their characters remain under wraps, we do know that Neeson will be playing the head of the M.I.B. at the U.K. branch of the top-secret alien-hunting organization.
F. Gary Gray (The Fate of the Furious) is directing with a script from Iron Man scribes Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. Production is expected to begin this summer with a June 14, 2019 release date already set.
The plot is being kept under heavy lock-and-key, but the film will not be a reboot of the original trilogy that starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. It will instead be a true spin-off that takes place in the same cinematic universe, but follows a pair of new agents (Hemsworth & Thompson) on an entirely different continent as they embark on an all-new intergalactic, world-saving adventure.
