Bloody Disgusting (via FearHQ.com) is reporting that a feature adaptation of Second Sight Publishing's controversial 2021 comic series, Cult of Dracula, is in development at BR Films, the production team behind Dope Boy Magic, Monogamish, Crossover and The Last Call.

Rich Davis' horror series puts a fresh spin on the age-old tale, but not everyone was happy with the direction he took the story - or more specifically, the legendary lord of the vampires.

In Davis' comic, Dracula was reimagined as a "svelte femme fatale with goat horns, bat-like wings and a serpent’s tail."

“From the beginning, I knew one thing. It may have been the only thing I 'knew', but I knew it in my bones. I would not tell another story about an Eastern European dude buying up all the real estate in Victorian London.” said Davis. “There’s just no need for that story to be told again. It’s been told so many times and so very, very well that I didn’t believe I could add anything to it.”

“Vampires don’t solely belong to the west," he continued. "They exist in virtually every human culture that has ever walked the face of the earth.” Davis says he drew inspiration from mythologies from all over the world to create his Dracula. “The Deer Woman from Cherokee legend. Jorogumo from Japan. Medusa from Ancient Greece. Kali from Hinduism. I took Dracula all the way back to Lilith and the Garden of Eden.”

Details on this live-action adaptation are few and far between, but the project is reportedly set to go into "immediate development," so we should learn more fairly soon.

Have any of you read Cult of Dracula? If so, let us know what you think, and who you'd cast in the lead role.

Never heard of this before, but I actually quite like the set-up of this story.

If this is truly how the comic creator felt then I dont know. Maybe don't do Dracula and call it something different?

I mean, he changed literally everything, from the story, to the character. Feels more like creating something new and cashing in on a name.

@CorndogBurglar - well there are billions of Dracula movies that change everything from the original story. One of the movies made Dracula originally being Judas, who was cursed for betraying Jesus.

@TheSuperMex - True. But Dracula is still basically Dracula. They changed everything here. Gender swapped Dracula. Made her appearance more like a succubus than Dracula. And it has a completely different story. Like, what about this is Dracula?

@CorndogBurglar - Dracula name recognition at least means someone might at least take a look at it over another generic vampire project. $$$

@RolandD - Exactly. It's cashing in on the name while having nothing recognizable about the character lol.

Wish Eiza Gonzalez could play her. She was amazing as Santanico in Dawn to Dusk

I mean... he could have just called the lead vampire something other than Dracula then, since he deviated THAT far from any semblance of source material.

I'd check it out, but it just seems pretty [frick]ing dumb to call the lead villain (or hero? I don't know bc I have never heard of this comic before) Dracula, when it's so clearly inspired by everything BUT Dracula.

@Demigods - Or you could have read @CorndogBurlar ‘s comment from a few hours earlier when he said pretty much the same thing. No hate🤣😂. Sometimes I post a comment without reading what everyone else has already said.

What had Dracula or vampires got to do with Medusa? I never knew they was conmected. Why not just call this something else original
