Easily one of the most underrated movies of the year. It was a very stylish action-horror-fantasy film that honours the Dracula mythos but also takes it in exciting new directions. Critics were much too harsh, and audiences who wrote off the film as being another I Frankenstein were completely wrong. As someone who loves Bram Stoker's Dracula, I thought this movie was great. And people who claimed they made Vlad and assume Dracula is a pure villain clearly don't understand the story of Dracula.

I really enjoyed this movie, despite the critical reaction. I am pretty damn excited to see what they do with the rest of the movies in this "shared universe"

I really don't understand the negative reviews for this film. I thought it was a great movie. It honestly felt like I was watching a Marvel Character Origin story and that's a good thing. Bet if this was a Marvel film everyone would be losing their minds on how great the film was. Luke Evans did a real good job. !Spoiler! The way he took out that army was awesome. Excellent cliffhanger at the end. Crossing my fingers for a sequel.

The movie is very enjoyable BUT they cut a lot of stuff (60 minutes of plot) explaining certain abilities of Dracula that he did not get from the Vampirism.

If anyone who has seen this film wants to know which parts were cut. Feel free to ask I read 2006 draft and 2012 draft of the script with the details that were definitely shot but cut down to make it to 90 minutes.

For Example: the first concept shows the interior of the cave in the mountain called Broken Tooth. Well, as you might notice it looks like Roman architecture, it is. Charles Dance's character is credited as The Master Vampire BUT... he was in fact CALIGULA!!! Mad Roman Emperor that enjoyed hanky-panky stuff. You may take the first trailer and see that entrance to the Cave is Roman Style Gates. Then, watch exact moment when Vkad climbs the Mountain and it is changed just to cave hole.

Besides that. You may compare the concept to the screen shot from the first trailer when you can see dead Turkish soldiers hanging upside down and Roman statues and architecture all around. Well, it is not in the movie and the Name CALIGULA was reduced in promo material but few months ago it was all around the place. Universal changed it to feet into Monster Universe and Caligula has become just The Masyer Vampire.

By the way, yeah @Nick56 Vlad Dracula was merciless BUT he was a hero of his people and all this story's that he would soak his bread in blood of his enemies and eat is total Bull, first his stomach would not take that and infection would destroy him very early on. And the story of him Impaling innocent people because he was mad are also Bullshit. I mean he was absolutely ruthless but he never killed innocent. When he came back from imprisonment he killed the Royals that killed his father, burned and impaled the Thieves (including Rich people). Nobody dared to steal or o anything wrong out of fear. Well, that how all the stories about him being mad monster started, out of fear.
