With the film set to arrive in exactly one year, Universal Pictures has officially announced the title of their highly anticipated The Mummy sequel: The Mummy: Book of the Dead.

The star cast returns Brendan Fraser ("Rick O'Connell"), Rachel Weisz ("Evelyn O'Connell"), John Hannah ("Jonathan Carnahan"), Arnold Vosloo ("Imhotep"), Oded Fehr ("Ardeth Bay"), and Kevin J. O'Connor ("Beni Gabor"). Newcomers to the franchise include Michael Johnston (Obsession; Teen Wolf) and Numan Acer (Spider-Man: Far From Home; Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan).

Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Scream VI; Ready or Not) are set to direct the feature, with a screenplay from David Coggeshall (The Family Plan; Orphan: First Kill).

Sean Daniel, William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and Clayton Townsend are onboard as producers, while Brendan Fraser and Jason F. Brown are attached as executive producers.

Filming is currently underway, with the most recent batch of set photos sharing our first look Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz reuniting for the first time in twenty-five years!

The Fraser-fronted films are among some of the biggest blockbusters of the early 2000s, with the trilogy grossing over $1.264 billion globally. The first two films have sustained a passionate fanbase over the years, so interest in the next chapter should certainly be at an all-time high.

While plot details on the fourth installment are being kept deep within Imhotep's tomb, Fraser previously teased how this will be the film he's wanted to make for nearly two decades. He told AP News last year, "The one I wanted to make was never made. The third one was a model of … how can I say this to the AP reporter? NBC had the rights to broadcast the Olympics that year. So they put two together and we went to China. Working in Shanghai, an incredible experience. I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want."

The Mummy 4 is set to hit theaters on October 15, 2027!

Glad to have an official title at last. I will have to rewatch the duology again because I'm getting mixed up the books of magic that were used in each film for their specific purposes.

@NinnesMBC - it was the Book of The Dead in the first and second film…

I don’t remember there being one in the third one though.

@TheVisionary25 - I've been told that the first filmh had a book for the living which would fit with how they beated Imhotep: resurrecting him to make him mortal and be wounded unlike when he was an undead.

That's why I'd like to watch them again. Some wonder if it was maybe a mistake to revive Evie with that book since the 2nd film and now they're about to pay some consequences.

@NinnesMBC - the Evie thing could be interesting.

With today's CGI it will be a treat to see what the team creates. But I do hope for practical sets as well.

If I remember, there was someone related to the 2nd movie said in an interview the reason of that awful CGI Scorpion King was because they didn't have enough time and studio decided to release it anyway.

@Feralwookiee - I was talking about actual on site set pieces vs CGI. Not character CGI 😂

This is all I see & hear when I read that title…

My guess is that Michael Johnston’s new character reads from the book accidentally and unleashes a new threat for which he goes to Rick & Evie to help stop it thus also bringing in Jonathan and Ardeth Bey again.

Also this might explain Beni’s return too if he’s resurrected and maybe even Imhotep who is rumored to be back aswell?.

Anyway , hope this turns out well & good like the first film and not the sequels (I know Returns has its fans but I’m not a big one tbh)!!.

Unrelated but when people ask me why I hate the modern MCU, this video explains it in depth and pretty well. I'm not alone in this.

Doomsday will be one of the worst movies of all time. A cinematic abomination.
