TRAILER: No Ordinary Family

TRAILER: No Ordinary Family

ABC's new TV series about a family that gets super powers after a plane crash, starring Michael (The Thing) Chiklis. Hmmmmm. Why does this sound familiar? Can you say, "Fantastic Four Rip-off" -- maybe with a hint of "The Incredibles" thrown in for good measure. Why can't Hollywood come up with its own NEW ideas? But hey, let's give it a shot. It might be really good.

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie's relationship lacks the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children, leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells, as they soon discover that something's not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers. But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important, as they try to find purpose for their new powers and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family who happen to be a little bit amazing.

Michael Chiklis (The Shield) stars as Jim Powell, Julie Benz (Dexter) as Stephanie Powell, Romany Malco (The 40-Year-Old Virgin) as George St. Cloud, Tate Donovan (Damages) as Mitch McCutcheon, Autumn Reeser as Katie Andrews, Christina Chang as Yvonne Cho, Kay Panabaker as Daphne Powell and Jimmy Bennett as JJ Powell.

The pilot was written and executive-produced by Jon Feldman. The series is executive-produced by Feldman, Greg Berlanti, Morgan Wandell and David Semel, who also directed the pilot. Joe Hartwick, Jr. serves as producer. No Ordinary Family is from ABC Studios.

Julie Benz as Stephanie Powell

Wow, there are some names on this show! I wonder if this is why Benz was written off Dexter? Perhaps this show won't entirely suck...

Looks kind of like a cross between the Incredibles (ages and gender of the family members) and Fantastic Four (incident causes powers). And Incredibles was already a Fantastic Four rip-off.
Might be decent though. I'm getting a little bit tired of the "Wah! I have super powers so life is so hard for me!" thing. Had to deal with it with Claire Bennet on Heroes and it looks like I would have to deal with it with the whiny teenage daughter on this show if I became a fan.

This looks pretty good with a nice cast. Michael Chiklis was the best cast character in Fantastic 4. Hope they don't it drag out it when it becomes lifeless though.

I wish Marvel/Disney made a show based on comic characters. Too bad mutants would be the best material to use.

@BIGBMH So true. No one would really complain about getting powers unless they get sucky Morlock powers.

I think it's more of borrowing ideas from Fantastic Four and the Incredibles, seeing as Disney owns all three. They even acknowledged the two when first promoting the show.

It may not be great but at least the networks are trying to appeal to us. It took them 9 years or so to get a CBM right, Heros and this could be the first few weak steps to something great.

I think the key to making a good superhero series is getting qualified people behind the scenes.

Greg Berlanti wrote the pilot and will also be the executive producer. He wrote the original script for the Green Lantern film and was originally attached as director.I believe he is also a producer on the film. He's also rumored to be involved with the Flash movie.

Jon Harmon Feldman, his co-writer/executive producer was a writer and producer on Tru Calling and Roswell.

David Semel, who is directing the pilot, also directed episodes of Heroes, Angel, Roswell, Life and Buffy.

Also, The Cape has Gail Berman as producer, who served as executive producer throughout the entire run of Buffy and Angel.Word is they are looking to hire Sarah Connor Chronicles producer/writer John Wirth.

It seems like both new superhero shows are off to a good start.

No Ordinary Family will air Tuesdays at 7p.m.The Cape won't debut til midseason, so it doesn't have a slot, yet.Hopefully it won't be scheduled at the same time.I want both shows to succeed.I am a little worried they might, as The Biggest Loser will be on at the same time as No Ordinary Family, so that's the spot that will be empty come midseason.

the only main problem i have is that Chiklis' powers are kinda similar to Grimm's powers from Fantastic Four.
except for the normal lookingness and the jumpiness.
this looks like a popcorn TV show. with no substance. my opinion is likely to change.

but until it does....
don't forget to check out Part V of my Spider-man story over in Fan Fic!

As there are a lot of people who use this site that don't live in the USA and therefore can't view this trailer, could someone give us an idea of the powers these characters have and maybe a brief description of what it is we're not permitted to watch because we're in the wrong territory, please?

I think it looks good- a little cheesy but thats expected. The inevitable FF/Incredibles comparisons are there but it looks like it could be good in its own right.

That 'phosporous in the water' line could have been left out! Seems a little too (dare I say it) comic-booky for a real life approach. All the same, Im really looking forward to this!!
