Freecomicbookday: Set your project up for those that might not know much about it. What can we expect to see in terms of story and art?

Humberto Ramos: A roller coaster ride of action with Spider-Man vs. Spider-Woman. And if you want to know why Spider-Man and Spider-Woman are facing off…well, you’ll just have to get the book. What I can tell you is that events in this book will have major ramifications in the Spider-Man universe.

Freecomicbookday: What’s your favorite part about being able to work in comics?

Humberto Ramos: Waking up every day and living the “endless summer.” Having the chance to draw the funny books and get paid for it is awesome!

Freecomicbookday: Why do you think FCBD is so vital to the industry?

Humberto Ramos: It is our duty as members of this industry to pay back our supporters—the legions of readers who buy our books time and time again. And also FCBD is the best way we have to get closer to new readers. That’s why it’s important that, when we offer a free book, to offer one of the highest quality. To me, it’s an honor to be asked to work on this project alongside Dan Slott.

Freecomicbookday: Since FCBD has now been a yearly event since 2002, do you, your creator friends and/or your family have any annual FCBD traditions?

Humberto Ramos: Here in Mexico there’s a FCBD as well but, unfortunately, the word hasn’t spread beyond the stores. But I do certainly go and pick up my free book.

Freecomicbookday: What do you believe will set your FCBD book apart from the others that readers will be picking up for free on May 7?

Humberto Ramos: If you guys don’t pick up the FCBD Amazing Spider-Man, it will be like not getting the ticket to the most awesome party of the summer. That’s how big this book is.

Freecomicbookday: What was your favorite character, setting, or sequence to illustrate?

Humberto Ramos:New York City is an important, quiet character in the Marvel universe and, aside from the high octane action sequences in this issue, it was a thrill to draw 5th Avenue with all the business and color.
Freecomicbookday: Knowing that so many readers are sure to pick up the issue, does it put more pressure on you, or is it something that gets you more excited about what you’re working on?

Humberto Ramos: I am always excited. First and foremost, I am a comic reader. And, as a reader, I want to be the spokesman for Marvel by telling all the fans that Marvel takes FCBD really seriously and wants to present you with best books we can deliver.

Freecomicbookday: In the spirit of potential newcomers picking up comics, what was the first comic you remember reading or that inspired you to get involved in the industry?

Humberto Ramos: Spider-Man and the real essence of a true hero. Spider-Man’s heroism is something you can never forget once you’ve been exposed to it. Real heroes emerge from the common people. That is the most important thing I learned by reading about Peter Parker, and that’s why I have a special love for him and his buddy Spider-Man.

Freecomicbookday: What comic(s) or graphic novel(s) would you recommend to someone that enjoys your FCBD book and is looking for something like it to read next?

Humberto Ramos: I did this Peter Parker, Spider-Man 4 issue story along with Paul Jenkins, I think. Regardless of the art, one of the best Green Goblin stories ever. But beyond that, I would say…go to a comic book store and dive in. You will discover not only superheroes but a universe of fantasy, action, horror, mystery, fun, love, intrigue and so much more. Read a comic book today. You won’t regret it.
