Actor Pete Postlethwaite Dead at 64

Some bad news to start out 2011. The excellent Pete Postlethwaite has died at 64. Apparently the Englishman passed "peacefully, after a long illness." Postlethwaite is probably best known for his performance in Jim Sheridan's In The Name Of The Father but CBM/sci fi fans will remember his work in Alien 3 and more recently Clash Of The Titans and Solomon Kane. He also appeared in The Usual Suspects, Inception and The Town as well as many other quality flicks.

Personally I have been a huge fan of the man's work for many years and count Brassed Off among my favourites. Our thoughts and condolences go out to this great actor's family and friends. R.I.P

Dude, he is actually one of my all-time favorite actors! I was just thinking the other day about how I wished he would have been Abin Sur! I remember when I was a kid, liking him in Romeo & Juliet, and The Lost World, and I respected him more as I grew up. I think he is one of the great character actors! I really can't believe this. What terrible news!

Goodbye, Pete. I'll never forget you or your work.

I'll always remember him as the mysterious stranger from James and the Giant Peach. I really enjoyed that movie when I was a kid. This is very sad.

Sad news. He was my pick for Vulture but that will never be seen now. Great actor with one great performance after another. Even when the movie wasn't great, his performance was faultless!

I watched The Lost World: Jurassic Park on New Year's Eve; after watching the deleted scenes, I think he deserved more screen time.

It's a new year and we already lost a talent.

So weird. I was just talking to a buddy today about how he shoulcd've played Alfted in Nolan's Batman. Love Michael Caine, but PP would've been better, I think.

Wow - had absolutely no idea he was even ill. Such a great actor.

I HAVE seen Solomon Kane and, in fact, he was far and away the best thing in it. Certainly gave it some class.

He will be greatly missed.

Always in the background, but always solid and consistant as an actor. And as we all know, that is hard to find these days. May he rest in piece.
