Singer/actress America Olivo has joined the cast of Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark. Olivo updated her facebook page this morning with the message, "In training for Spiderman."

While her role is unconfirmed, it appears that Felicia Hardy (aka the Black Cat) is unlikely to make an appearance in the stage version. When asked by another poster who she would be playing, Olivo addressed the suggestion that she would make an excellent Black Cat with the response, "Black Cat? Ohh, I like... Humph... I don't know the Black Cat character. Who is she?"

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark will premiere on November 14th of this year. It is directed by Julie Taymor and featuring music and lyrics by U2's Bono and The Edge, the stage version stars Reeve Carney, Jennifer Damiano and Patrick Page.

I'm looking forward to this play. Perhaps even more than the upcoming film. It's a pity that I won't be living in NYC for about four years and that when I get there: I'll probably be living in a box for a little while. :p

The only reason this thing is still moving forward is because of Bono's backing. The guy's got more money than God and enough ego to push it through just BECAUSE everyone has said its a bad idea. It'll make it to Broadway and then be gone in a month. I hope. Oversaturation and idiotic expansion into ridiculously unrelated media that removes it from its core audience and then merely sets it up as a source of ridicule by an audience that have never been exposed to always hurt a genre.
