Hey another round of comic book reviews. This week was the most money I spent on comics recently. I bought a good chunk of single issues, 1 TPB and 1 Hardcover. So Today's review list is Avengers: Origins #1, Batman and Robin Hardcover 1, S.H.I.E.L.D #1, Marvel Zombies 5 #1, and Transformers: All Hail Megatron vol 1. I got a few others but they were issues that were issue catch up issues so they aren't gonna be counted. With that said lets begin with The Avengers.
Avengers: Origins #1- This is the first in the latest line of Avenger comics that are gonna be released in the coming Heroic Age. This series is more of a reboot and reintroduction to the series and characters. I have vol. 1 of the Original Avengers and this issue is a modern retelling of the story. The story tells of Loki tricking the Hulk in attacking wildly in the desert, which gets a group of kids helping the hulk to send a message to the Fantastic 4 for help, but Loki uses his powers to send it to THOR, Iron man, Ant-man and Wasp. They all arrive at the same point and it ends there. Between this and the original, this re-imagining feels much more coherent and not jumbled. Like in the original, Iron man is in his house. In the new one he's at his factory developing the heli-carrier. I love the art story of this series. It has a modern look and feel. I give it the story a 4/5 because its a slicker retelling of the classic line and the art gets a 5/5, for being really great and modern
Marvel Zombies 5 #1- this is actually not the 5th but its labeled that so lets move on. The follows Machine Man(Arron Stack) and Howard the Duck(Howard) traversing the Multi-verse seeking out various causes to the zombie problem in hopes of Dr. Morbius finding a cure from one or all sources. The first issue takes place in a Wild West world. We meet a few multiverse variants and the zombies comeback quickly. Machine Man and Howard show up in the end and set up that they are heading into the next universe. The art is similar to Marvel Zombies 4. I give the story a 3/5, I love this series but like all zombies you gotta end its life soon. I give the art a 4/5, love the look and its gory to boot so thats really good.
S.H.I.E.L.D #1- OMG this comic rocks. From beginning to end we are treated to awesome images and action scenes. The story is about a boy named Leonid and how he is going to save the world. We are introduced to an ancient order known as SHIELD, who's mission is to prevent the world from being destroyed. It has had many important members. I won't spoil any more but go read this. I give the story a solid 5/5, engaging from start to finish, and the art a 5/5, every era is beautiful rendered and the characters look amazing.
Batman and Robin vol 1: Batman Reborn- This hardcover collects issue 1-6. This is following after the events of Battle for the Cowl. Dick Grayson has become the new Batman and Damian Wayne has become the new Robin. Damian is like Jason Todd, only likable. Grayson has to deal with a new changing crime scene in Gotham. Grayson also has to deal with the stress and power that being Batman Bruce also endured for this whole time. From this first vol, I really like this Grayson Batman, he's coming into his own as the Caped Crusader but adding in something new. Hopefully he can stay as the Bat longer. I give this book a 5/5 for story, it was well paced and we got 2 arcs for one book, and the art a 5/5, the use of angles and color are brilliant.
Transformers: All Hail Megatron vol 1- This is my first Transformer's comic and I entered it in a weird place, but I was able to get a firm hold of what was happening. I got what was going on right away, the story takes place after the autobots getting defeated badly by the decepticons by sending them and stranding them on Cybertron. One autobot is a traitor but its not revealed who. Megatron and his forces then wage war on the Earth. They attack and decimate New York with little to no problem. People are trapped underground, Megatron and his forces take over most of America and the last place they were at was Israel. The Human factor was spot on, they were in their but not the main focus. Spike Witwicky is a military man now and starts a rebellion against the Threat. I really loved this vol. I loved the Transformers, they look amazing, and the story was good. I give the story a 4/5, it's like a really good in your face old school episode or a lost movie. I give the art a 5/5, the characters are really well made and they look like they were in the cartoon.
*phew* And with that is my week in comics. I will post my next list of reviews next week. Til next time, BlackAirs87 out
