Hey another round of comic book reviews. This week was the most money I spent on comics recently. I bought a good chunk of single issues, 1 TPB and 1 Hardcover. So Today's review list is Avengers: Origins #1, Batman and Robin Hardcover 1, S.H.I.E.L.D #1, Marvel Zombies 5 #1, and Transformers: All Hail Megatron vol 1. I got a few others but they were issues that were issue catch up issues so they aren't gonna be counted. With that said lets begin with The Avengers.

Avengers: Origins #1- This is the first in the latest line of Avenger comics that are gonna be released in the coming Heroic Age. This series is more of a reboot and reintroduction to the series and characters. I have vol. 1 of the Original Avengers and this issue is a modern retelling of the story. The story tells of Loki tricking the Hulk in attacking wildly in the desert, which gets a group of kids helping the hulk to send a message to the Fantastic 4 for help, but Loki uses his powers to send it to THOR, Iron man, Ant-man and Wasp. They all arrive at the same point and it ends there. Between this and the original, this re-imagining feels much more coherent and not jumbled. Like in the original, Iron man is in his house. In the new one he's at his factory developing the heli-carrier. I love the art story of this series. It has a modern look and feel. I give it the story a 4/5 because its a slicker retelling of the classic line and the art gets a 5/5, for being really great and modern

Marvel Zombies 5 #1- this is actually not the 5th but its labeled that so lets move on. The follows Machine Man(Arron Stack) and Howard the Duck(Howard) traversing the Multi-verse seeking out various causes to the zombie problem in hopes of Dr. Morbius finding a cure from one or all sources. The first issue takes place in a Wild West world. We meet a few multiverse variants and the zombies comeback quickly. Machine Man and Howard show up in the end and set up that they are heading into the next universe. The art is similar to Marvel Zombies 4. I give the story a 3/5, I love this series but like all zombies you gotta end its life soon. I give the art a 4/5, love the look and its gory to boot so thats really good.

S.H.I.E.L.D #1- OMG this comic rocks. From beginning to end we are treated to awesome images and action scenes. The story is about a boy named Leonid and how he is going to save the world. We are introduced to an ancient order known as SHIELD, who's mission is to prevent the world from being destroyed. It has had many important members. I won't spoil any more but go read this. I give the story a solid 5/5, engaging from start to finish, and the art a 5/5, every era is beautiful rendered and the characters look amazing.

Batman and Robin vol 1: Batman Reborn- This hardcover collects issue 1-6. This is following after the events of Battle for the Cowl. Dick Grayson has become the new Batman and Damian Wayne has become the new Robin. Damian is like Jason Todd, only likable. Grayson has to deal with a new changing crime scene in Gotham. Grayson also has to deal with the stress and power that being Batman Bruce also endured for this whole time. From this first vol, I really like this Grayson Batman, he's coming into his own as the Caped Crusader but adding in something new. Hopefully he can stay as the Bat longer. I give this book a 5/5 for story, it was well paced and we got 2 arcs for one book, and the art a 5/5, the use of angles and color are brilliant.

Transformers: All Hail Megatron vol 1- This is my first Transformer's comic and I entered it in a weird place, but I was able to get a firm hold of what was happening. I got what was going on right away, the story takes place after the autobots getting defeated badly by the decepticons by sending them and stranding them on Cybertron. One autobot is a traitor but its not revealed who. Megatron and his forces then wage war on the Earth. They attack and decimate New York with little to no problem. People are trapped underground, Megatron and his forces take over most of America and the last place they were at was Israel. The Human factor was spot on, they were in their but not the main focus. Spike Witwicky is a military man now and starts a rebellion against the Threat. I really loved this vol. I loved the Transformers, they look amazing, and the story was good. I give the story a 4/5, it's like a really good in your face old school episode or a lost movie. I give the art a 5/5, the characters are really well made and they look like they were in the cartoon.

*phew* And with that is my week in comics. I will post my next list of reviews next week. Til next time, BlackAirs87 out

Dude I loved Shield! CBR gave it like a terrible rating. I think it's cool. Yeah, it's unrealistic because how could all these people communicate with eachother and have such advanced technology etc. but it's a frick'n comic book! Anyone read the World War Hulks one shot? My favorite story in there was about Deadpool. I hate to say it because Deadpool is currently the most over-whored character at Marvel, but I'm really like'n Hulkpool with Bob as his Rick Jones.

Anyone seen this image?

Are the X-Men accepting non-mutants onto their teem? I guess that would make sense being that the x-men's original intention was to create harmony between mutants and humans. Surprised no one ever did this before.

@jusme6: Yeah that image is for the outcome of Second Coming...

@dellamorte: If Wolverine can be on two Avengers teams and two X-Teams why can't Spidey be in the X-Men... If you've been reading Uncanny X-Men then you know that the X-Men have taken in non-mutants as refugees, and ex-mutants!

@BlackAirs: I haven't read any of this... but thanks for writing this, now I know which to buy!

@All: Hey guys just wanted to let you guys know that next week I'm writing my first article here on CBM in months! I went to Wonder Con last week and got a whole lot of footage... so I decided to share it here with you guys... I have uploaded some, so if you want go to YouTube and look me up... unless its not spiderman but an impostor. I'm surprised there hasn't been a mutant with arachnid like abilities yet or something similar in nature. Hopefully they wont do a cheap retcon saying spidey was a mutant all along and it just started to affect him now. That would ruin both spidey and the x-men comics creditability

I never really got into X-men. I only enjoyed Old Man Logan because it was different and fun

@Black: X-Men can be kinda hard to follow especially now that there's a zillion x-books and too many mutants to count. I don't know who half of them are. It's not a great read for someone new to just pick up and read.

@Sora: It's about dam time! I can't wait for your triumphant return article.

Anyone seen the New Mutants preview? The Purifiers trapped/neutralized Magik. I read that and thought, "WOW! THE X-MEN ARE TOTALLY F*CKED!" Magik is such an ace in the hole and she's out! This Second Coming event is starting to look good. Plus with all the X-Force stuff finally hitting the fan, it's looking to be filled with drama.

@jus, thanks. I noticed theres like a bazillion different x men books out there, seems to be only for die hard fans. I will stick with Iron Man, Thor, and the Avengers.lol.

@jusme6: I wouldn't call it a triumphant return article... just an article!

@ blackairs

you didn't enter All Hail Megatron at a weird place. thats actually how that story starts. there's not a series that leads up to it. i thought it was pretty cool how they did that, its kind of like a mystery for the reader to piece together what exactly happened, and figure out who the traitor is. good stuff :)

and that spidey pick in the x-men isn't just a variant. Marvel just revealed it the other day, and the way they've been revealing their rosters for the new heroic age, it shouldn't be surprising that this is revealing the first two characters in the x-men.

but remember, the xmen are in san francisco for the foreseeable future. i don't keep up with Spidey, but unless he moved to San Fran recently, i think its a good bet that THIS spidey is Ben Reilly.

worst 5 xmen ever:

1. Longshot
2. Dazzler
3. Slipstream
4. Marrow
5. Morph

btw, i thought that indian/sentinel chick's name WAS Sentinel. could be wrong though. i kinda liked her though.

@ morte

also, maybe you can answer this for me. why does Namor get all the credit for being the first Mutant, when Apocalypse was born in ancient times?? i would say its just something that they say, because Namor was created first. but i have an issue of x-men where jean is teaching class, and she's teaching everyone that Namor is the first Mutant. doesn't make much sense...

@ morte

are we talking about the same person?? the girl i'm talking about was part sentinel. she ended up being one of the traitors during Messiah Complex. (it was against her will, because she was being controlled by Malice, but still.) if so, then, yeah, i liked her. didn't know she was slipstream's sister, though.

about Morph, its a little weird. originally he was called the Changeling. Morph was created later in AOA, and he's in exiles. but in Exiles he has the same real name as the Changeling. so its unclear if they're actually supposed to be the same person or not.

but yeah, i agree. i'm okay with non-mutants being in the x-men, but they have to make sense, or be from the xmen world. putting Spidey on the team is pushing it. i think that'll be terrible. some characters just have no business being in the xmen...

yeah, beak does suck. and who was that fat black chick that wolverine finds in grant morrison's run? the one with the insect wings and she can puke acid?? she was pretty lame too...

@ morte

dude, Cypher was the worst. he can speak any language...wow...cool. that would be a cool power, IF you weren't a part of a team of superheroes that fight from time to time, lol.

and yeah dude, when they turned him into Doug-Locke during the Phalanx Covenant, it was ridiculous. i know he was a New Mutant, but he was one of the worst mutants...

@ morte

man, what the hell is Marvel doing?? they just released the next teaser of X-Men characters and its Magneto and The Savage She-Hulk. WTF!

Magneto has been an xman before, so i'm fine with that, but she-hulk? weak...

i've been a life-long Marvel fan, but this new Heroic Age sucks BIG TIME!!! i have NO interest in any of the main Marvel books now. damn you marvel...
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/12/2010, 10:29 AM
so now we have, Psylocke (she was cooler when she had armor, and wasn't Japanese.), Magneto, Spiderman, and Savage She-Hulk...LAME

@ morte

no, moon knight will be in secret avengers more than likely...the only title that i have hope for.

and xmen are what got me into comics when i was a little kid. Jim Lee's run to be exact, well, Claremont's first 3, then Jim Lee's stuff. but this is heartbreaking. i've been die-hard Marvel my whole life, and now this Heroic Age is totally killing Marvel. and the sad thing is it hasn't even started yet. these are just the teams...

Hey check it out. Blade's an X-Man now!

Well, I guess Hope's gonna live through second coming and she's not gonna magically turn into Jean Grey.

jusme6 - 4/13/2010, 12:32 PM
On second thought it looks like Hope's outfit is the exact same as Jean Grey's so she will definitely be the "new phoenix"

@Della: All I gotta say is when are things gonna go back to normal? When're we gonna have Xavier's x-men vs. Magneto's brotherhood? The Utopia nation of mutants lead by Cyclops is pretty cool, but I think I've had my fill. Also, I certainly wouldn't mind it if Cable got killed off (or Bishop for that matter). I remember thinking Cable was such a cool character, but for 20+ issues, Cable and Bishop have both stunk up the joint. I say, kill them both off and then resurrect them once we've got the bad taste out of our mouths.
Regarding all the non-mutant additions (Spidy, Savage She-Hulk, Blade) they actually look pretty cool to me. However, the thing that REALLY bothers me is why in the world do they feel they need to do anything to make the x-men more sexy/appealing/awesome? This is the X-Men we're talking about! It's pretty insulting to the title as well as their fans to think they need to spice up anything.
We do need to split up the mutants though. There's just too many on the same team.

@Anil: can you post some pictures of Steve/Wintersoldier and some evidence that Nova is the 6th member? I wanna see!
I'm fine with Marvel Boy joining the Avengers as long as he's not sporting the new suit. He looks like a marshmallow spaceman.

corndog- that xmen "spidey" has to be ben reilly. plz plz plz! if its peter parker, then im really going to hate the "heroic age" (freakin disney!)

second coming has been pretty cool so far. i wonder which mutants are gonna die? it says somebodys gonna die right?

im done with all hulks. cant stand em hope they all die.

cant wait for the SIEGE one shots that come out today! and SIEGE #4 soon......
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 9:24 AM
@ makiveli

yeah, 2 characters are going to die, man. The first will be Nightcrawler, almost for certain. (in that prequel, Wolverine mentions someone killing his "buddy", so that really only leaves you to think its Nightcrawler.) The second will probably Cyclops...although i hope not.
