It was reported last year that Shane Black, who wrote Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, was writing a script for a live-action Doc Savage movie. Now, Variety is reporting that Black will also be directing from the script he wrote with newcomers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry. The movie will be produced by Original Film production compnay.

The character of Doc Savage was created by Henry W. Ralston way back in 1933 and became a popular character in the pulp mags of the 1930s and 40s. He is a physician, surgeon, scientist, adventurer, inventor, explorer, and researcher. A team of scientists deliberately trained his mind and body to near-superhuman abilities almost from birth, giving him great strength and endurance, a photographic memory, a mastery of the martial arts, and vast knowledge of the sciences. Doc is also a master of disguise and an excellent imitator of voices. He uses his skills to fight evil all over the world. "Doc Savage is an icon, a character with limitless possibilities."

Well from the sound of things this is good news! I think its high time we see Doc Savage's adventure in the big screen. I seem to remember from long ago Arnold to be attached to this film, but that was very long time ago.

Fantastic! Shane Black is a heck of a writer/director!
He will do this justice, finally! That first movie
was corny but not utterly without a little
charm! But way too campy for modern sophisticated
audiences!

FAST AND FURIOUS producer Neal H. Moritz is producing!
With this kind of pedigree making this movie it
should be great!

Yep, plagiarism has gone on since they first wrote that
first play on papyrus! lol Heck, they probably had a
caveman rippin' off another caveman's cave drawings! lol

Yep those boys who wrote Supes totally ripped off

Doc Savage's father hung out in South America
with those Indians who loved him and supplied
him with all the gold for Clark Savage Jr. to
fight all the crime with!

It's hinted in the story that DOC is half Indian
thus the bronze skin! Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson
would be perfect as Doc if he wore a blond wig!
Rock's gonna have white hair playin' Race Bannon
in the live-action Johnny Quest so blond hair
ain't much of a stretch!

Rock looks like he stepped right off the poster
paintings!

DDD: as I understand it, Doc Savage had the "Fortress of Solitude" first.

The 1970's movie was campy, as reflected the times, but it is a lot of silly fun. I hope this movie is a bit less silly, but is loyal to the source material. Savage is certainly a character that could be easily adapted to modern times. Black sounds like a reasonable choice for director. I'm hopeful that something good will come from this.

the rock def looks like him, minus the hair, but man im not a fan of the guy. he can make a decent comedy, but serious action... nah. if they make it funny, ala iron man and indiana jones, it could work.

@ddd i like your casting, right on... renny could prob have someone better, but im sure baldwin could make it work

Unfortunately, Dwayne Johnson wouldn't look right as a blonde. His polynesian features don't fit the image of Doc Savage.

Not to mention "The Utility Belt" - now where have i heard that one before?
I read about 50-60 of his books back in the 70s and , agreed, if done well, the movie would be awesome!
cant wait !
