When things are given for free we must really take advantage to it. Comic books are still alive and well. Many of us as children liked reading comic books, hey they were far better than movies back then. But as we grew to become grownups, many of us slowly faded from them when life got too hectic. Those adults who still read them have the ability to keep their inner child alive a lot better. Now who is going to bring this joy to our children if we don't as parents? Comic book stores all over the country on Saturday will have a free comic book day; like they have done each and every 1st Saturday in Might for years. I know I could be taking advantage of this day to go and introduce my kids to the joys of comics; and make an effort to get them off the video games a little a lot more. Reading happens to be good to stimulate the mind, regardless of what it is your reading.

ok I am a semi new fan becoming more obsessed by the day about comics and graphic novels(theDARK TOWER IS MY FAVORITE)and in the last ten years I have become obsessed with all comic book movies!!!!...anyways I was picking up my 16 year old son at his house in Ventura california I was a little early so I strolled down main street. I noticed a crowd gathering just outside of Ralphs Comic Corner it was about 9:57 a.m... people started running to get placement in line to enter. I was still about 20 yards away and the line continued to grow as I walked up. I got the crowd and said :
"so what's going on here, some kind of event?"
for just a brief moment it was silent or at least it felt like the world went silent just for that second. About 10 people turned around and looked at me as if I was the stupidest person on the planet!!! and then 3 people in comlpete unison said
"dont you know !!!!??? its FREE comic book day..duh"
the clock hit 10am and line of people scrambled through the door like ravenous wolves!!! So I HAD to check this "FREE comic book" thing out..as the mob squeezed entry into the store I battled for position. all the while pondering in my head:
"FREE?""WHO THE HELL GIVES AWAY FREE S**T THESE DAYS THIS CANT BE RIGHT"..but yes there it was..in the far back of the shop there were 2 tables STACKED with comics!!!I looked behind me and people were still coming through the door.It was finally my turn to let greed take over at the tables and I said extended my hand towards the closest comic book in reach but instead someone placed a black plastic bag PACKED with comics in my palm!!!!WOW! "THIS IS PRETTY COOL!!!" I thought to myself. The crowd parted just enough for my eyes to get a full view of the tables as an employee dumped a trash bag full of MARVEL collectible figurines on the table..in about 23 second they were GONE!!!! I made my way around to the next table and without a word I was handed yet another plastic bag PACKED with comics!!!OH SH*T!!! I almost forgot about my son. So I ran out of the store but not before stopping at the counter and shouting:
"HEY,all this stuff they handed me back there is FREE right? you guys arent gonna chase me down the street if I run out with this stuff are you??"" the clerk laughed and said with a cheerful smile:
"NO,NO, its FREE alright"
I said "cool I'm gonna grab my son and I'll be right back!!" so I grabbed my son and his little brother and they too got bags and bags of comics....anyways I thought I would share my first FREE COMIC BOOK DAY experience with you guys here at CBM. it turned out that I got like 33 comics some collectibles and am now gonna be spending some cash every month on about 15 of the comic titles that I read. Also we wound up spending about 45 minutes browsing through the store and I found so many killer things in there that I had to refrain from spending the money I set aside for the movies that day.
