Josh Gad To Skipper GILLIGAN'S ISLAND Movie

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is planning a feature film based on the 1960's television series Gilligan's Island. Josh Gad, who voiced Olaf the snowman for Disney's Frozen will co-write the script and will star in it as well. Thoughts?

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. is planning to resuscitate Gilligan's Island. No, not as a television series, like the original with ran from 1964 to 1967. While the show only lasted three seasons, the re-runs have thrived over the decades. The original cast was made up of: Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale JR as the Skipper, Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III, Natalie Schaefer as Lovie Howell, Tina Louise as Ginger, Russell Johnson as the Professor, and Dawn Wells as Mary Ann.

As for this new project, WB is hoping this new version of Gilligan's Island will be a launching pad for Josh Gad. Who you may know from The Rocker, or more recently Frozen. He voiced Olaf the naive but lovable snowman.
It will be fashioned as a star vessel for Book Of Mormon‘s Josh Gad. Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez will write the script. Lloyd Schwartz, Ross Schwartz, Tracey Silvers and Cathy Silvers will be executive producers. They’re not saying what character Gad would play, but the title character seems a possibility, though he could conceivably play The Skipper.

1960's Plot - Just sit right back, and you'll hear a tale ... of one of the most hilarious sitcoms ever produced! This legendary television classic features the slapstick adventures of hapless Gilligan, long-suffering Skipper and their gang of mismatched castaways, all stranded on an uncharted desert isle after their tiny ship hit stormy weather.

This guy is pretty funny and was also in Love & Other drugs and a couple other bit parts.

But this idea of slapstick working nowadays is just not going to fly with current audiences IMO. Perfect example is the three stooges movie, which was a complete bomb and watched by about 15 people on VHS. Wait what? See what I did there... Yeah no one watched that movie...

The only comedies that actually make money are R-rated or geared more towards kids, which I see this movie doing neither...

Unless TV goes away it is physically impossible for them to run out of "old" television shows

Another childhood memory tainted. Hollywood has been talking about doing this for the last twenty plus years. They finally got around to ruining Green Hornet, so they might as well ruin Gilligan. I can't wait until they destroy "The Six Million Dollar Man".

Gilligan's Island was a show based on a wacky, and very thing, premise. I'm surprised anyone wants to make this at all considering how they milked the show with all of the movies in the 1970s... I thought Gilligan's Island was OK for what it was, but let's face it---it wasn't sacred and anyone pretending it to have been just that needs to have a reality check.

I hope they don't touch The Six Million Dollar Man,for the love of God,not The Six Million Dollar Man.Hollywood has manged to violate almost every tv show that has been turned into a movie. And that Bionic Woman tv series was el crapo!!Yep,childhood memories continue to get tainted!

How can your childhood memories be tainted? Does a new version somehow erase or change the original that provided said memories? I've never understood that excuse. When I think of Scooby-Doo, my memories of my childhood are exactly the same as they were after the live action movies. Same thing with Bewitched. My Favorite Martian. The Smurfs. Total Recall. Yogi Bear. Yep, still have great memories of those shows and movies from when I was a kid.

I seem to recall that, awhile back, a SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN movie starring Jim Carrey was being discussed. Thankfully, it never happened!

Not that i didn't love Gilligan's Island but why is this story on here? Neither the show nor Frozen have anything to do with comics or even the geek and nerd fanbase.

darthballz: I wouldn't even stress it. I've been down that road before. Essentially while the site has a primary focus on films and tv shows that originated in comic books and graphic novels, the site has expanded to include sci-fi, horror, fantasy and pretty much anything else. It is no longer exclusive to just comic book movies. If it isn't something you are interested in, my suggestion is to just not click on the article and move on. It is a winless endeavor otherwise.

"Yep,childhood memories continue to be tainted!"
This was meant to be a joke, obviously memories can't be tainted by a remake of a tv show and regardless of all tv remakes,I still have fond memories of old classic tv series!just kidding around because all these remakes end up bombing anyways!Just a joke,if you din't get it,click on another article and move on.It's a winless endeaver otherwise!

For some reason, I feel like this is going to be more of a clever, Starsky and Hutch type reboot than a corny, The Three Stooges type reboot.

Gonna go ahead and predict that Michael Cera will be in the running for Gilligan.

I can't see it working without the singular vision of a known comedy troupe. I say give it to Broken Lizard or Happy Madison or Dan Harmon or (sigh, I suppose)Seth Rogan.

A Gilligan's Island movie? Really??? Leave the classic sitcom alone.

Look what happened with The Three Stooges movie... Going from A-list actors to C-list actors was a bad move. And the Jersey Shore cast cameo... What were the people in charge of the movie smoking?

Why are so many people who post on this always mention R rated films? They honestly aren't usually that successful because they don't appeal to broad audiences. As for this film, regardless if it was R rated or not, I don't see it making much unless somehow they hit upon an awesome script that none of us would have ever expected.

imaginejim- I have seen the issue brought up before, i believe with the Transformers and GI Joe franchises, and while comics weren't the original material for said stories I did think to myself, "Who cares? Movies about those subjects are frickin' awesome!"

I was just wondering why THIS movie would be posted on this forum. Sci-Fi, horror, fantasy novel adaptations, etc. movies are all welcome here as far as I'm concerned. But Gilligan's Island? Was the Bewitched movie covered here? There needs to be a line drawn. Otherwise, it will just be harder to sift through the crap to find the REAL movies that we come here to rant and rave and bitch about. Let's leave Gilligan's island to imdb or rotten tomatoes or whomever.

...But since the thread has already been started, would love a Broken Lizard take on this movie.

Glad you found my 'Shia Labeoufian reponse'clever and weren't insulted!Always believe in humor rather than name-calling to communicate with people on this site. Some people go too far with their bickering over silly pop culture here!Calling people names or insulting them is pointless and brainless since you've never met them and is an act of low self-esteem!Anyways,gonna have a couple of beers and chill out watching classic Gilligan(you know...before they ruin it with a movie).;)
