Keven's CBM Awards 2009

Vote for the best and worst of 2009 in Comic Book Movies.

Feature Opinion

Here’s my best of the year nominations for everything Comic Book Movie related. Go ahead and vote away – I have to say though it’s kind of a sad looking list – lot’s of repeats in every category – but I tried to use only categories that you could get on a legit voting list ala Academy Awards etc. I also struggled with the Best Actor category – I had some Star Trek nominees in there but I truly couldn’t ignore the actors in Watchmen…..

It’s up to you though, go ahead and take a look – vote – let me know who you think should/shouldn’t be in each category. I will admit I had to use filler for a few categories – including the ‘Best CBM of the Year’ award…..Which goes to show you that the year may have had more misses than hits – but when the hits came they were powerful.

I didn’t want to create a poll cause it annoys me when you vote it kicks you out of the article, so go ahead and just post your winner choices below for each category with the coinciding number.

1) Watchmen

Truly Amazing film. I can't watch this movie and not become engulfed in awe. Beautiful visuals and an amazing story that truly is the best adaptation of a single graphic novel...ever! If that weren't enough, just this movie ever being made was a great achievement in itself.

2)Jackie Earle Haley

Is this even a question? Haley IS Rorschach. Period.

3)Zoe Saldana

The weird relationship with Spock aside, Loved Zoe in Star Trek.

4)Liev Schreiber

Captured the ferocity and grisliness that makes sabretooth.

5)Carla Gugino

Definitely pulled off the somewhat whore-ish silk spectre 1 that we all know and love

6)Zack Snyder

Wow! Who could of guessed that the 300 guy would pull off the single greatest graphic novel ever made onto film. I sure as hell didn't. Very well done!

7)Watchmen

What can I say? They captured the iconic Blue pipe.

8)Watchmen

No matter how badly the songs did not match the mood of the scenes that they were displayed in, they were all top notch songs.

9)Superman/Batman: Public Enemies

A fun flick with the reunion of Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy. I couldn't ask for more

10) Whiteout

sigh.

11) District 9

This movie's originality and tone along with good special effects, great story, and superb acting truly makes this the best film of the year.

Phinehas
Phinehas - 12/30/2009, 4:31 PM
1. Best CBM of the Year –
Star Trek(with reluctance)

2. Best Actor –
I haven't seen Watchmen so I will pick Sharlto Copley from "District 9". His character transformation performance was excellent.

3. Best Actress –
Abstention -no one on this list impressed me at all, and I cannot think of a suitable substitute.

4. Supporting Actor –
Liev Schreiber

5. Supporting Actress –
Moon Bloodgood in Terminator Salvation (with reluctance; 2009 sucked for movies!)

6. Best Director –
Zack Snyder for Watchmen
JJ Abrams for Star Trek
This is a tough call for two reasons:
a) I know that both men know their craft when it comes to translating this genre to film.
b) I haven't seen Watchmen

Therefore, I abstain again.

7. Special Effects –
Avatar(hate the film, love the effects)

8. Best Soundtrack/Score -
Terminator Salvation (Who can win against that opening tune? Its a sad day for any movie to compete with this category when its a Terminator movie year)

9. Best Animated CBM of the year –
Green Lantern First Flight (This was a tough call. Hulk vs Wolverine and Thor was really good. But the anticipation for GL was just too much, and the end with Sinestro was very gratifying. However, in Hulk, Deadpool stole that movie, not Hulk or Wolvie)

10. Worst CBM of the year -
GI Joe: Rise of Cobra (I find people that say "They raped my childhood" are overly and unnecessarily dramatic. But when it came to this movie, I really identified with that sentiment. I hate this movie just for using such an awesome title to only let you down with the product.)

11. Best Non CBM Film of the year –

District 9

As much as I liked Star Trek which was one of the best films of 2009.... It's not a CBM movie so I can't include it in my top 5 CBM movies.....
1. Batman;Dark Night
2. Iron Man
3. Watchmen
4. The Incredible Hulk
5. Ghost Rider

The 3 Most anticipated CBM movies in 2010 are
1. Jonah Hex
2. Iron man 2
3. Kick Ass
I was going for 5 but at this moment I can't think of any others lol
