A stylish new trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's Nightmare Alley is now online, and it thrusts Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett and an all-star supporting cast into a dangerous world where nothing is what it seems and nobody can be trusted.

While The Shape of Water director usually likes to delve into the realms of fantasy and horror, this adaptation of the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham is actually more of a noir-ish psychological thriller - although this trailer certainly suggests that there could be a supernatural twist in the tale.

Bradley Cooper (GOTG, A Star Is Born) plays a manipulative conman named Stanton “Stan” Carlisle, who teams up with even more dangerous psychiatrist Dr. Lillith Ritter (Cate Blanchett) to try their hand at the carny game. Their endeavour proves successful and the pair reap the benefits, but can these grifters ever really trust one another?

Check out the trailer below along with a series of character posters, and let us know what you think.

"When charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn) at a traveling carnival, he crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society. With the virtuous Molly (Rooney Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Richard Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett) who might be his most formidable opponent yet."

Nightmare Alley also stars Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, David Strathairn, Clifton Collins Jr., Tim Blake Nelson and Mary Steenburgen, and is set to hit theaters on December 17.

Man I'm gonna feel bad for this one when Spider-Man wipes the floor with it in the Box Office. I want GDT movies to do well in order to get more of his stuff.

@Shivermetimbers - I'd do the same if I can, especially since the first Spidey screenings will be packed to the max.

@Fares - Some films aren't made for box office and counter programming does well too. Jumanji and Greatest Showman did great against Star Wars The Last Jedi. Even the Jumanji sequel did well against Frozen 2 and Star Wars 9. Holidays is going to have people of all ages going out so there's something for everyone.

TBH I can see Spiderman under performing too if people choose to stay home and watch Witcher, Hawkeye, Bobba Fett, Cobra Kai, etc. instead. Only guarantee Sony has in making a lot of money is the 1st 2 weeks with die hard fans like us, after that not alot of people come back.

Disney setting this up to fail by putting it out the same date as Spider-Man. Trying to bury Searchlight. Real shame

GDT doing a noir-ish thriller with a carny theme and a potenital supernatural twist? There'll probably be movies that are even more "for me", but this sounds like it's quite up there.

I need GDT to do a Bioshock movie at some point. Love the style of this movie and it would fit perfectly

Looks like Oscar trash.

@KingLeonidas - Imagine thinking that Oscar-worthy movies are “trash”….

This is why cinema is dying

@SerKurtWagner - And trust me - most of the movies are total and absolute garbage. The best films do not get nominated for oscars at all.

@KingLeonidas - I, for one, actually watch the majority of Oscar nominees each year. And while there are certainly more than a fair share of bland, forgettable "bait" movies each season, and while many great movies like 'Uncut Gems' or 'The Farewell' do get snubbed (largely due to the unfairly campaign-based nature of awards) it's absurd to say MOST, if any, of them are "total and absolute garbage."

The closest to a "bad" movie we've gotten at the Oscars lately was 'Bohemian Rhapsody.'
