Possible Details On The CW's HOURMAN Drama

A potential outline for the plot of The CW's Hourman television drama sounds completely different from the description supplied at the time of the show's announcement. Continue on to read the details. And could Arrow be setting up the pilot for Hourman?

Bleeding Cool's WB/CW spy is providing the site with all types of details this morning it seems. Fresh off of news on a possible Suicide Squad movie (more details HERE) and Young Justice tv show (more details HERE), we have details on the plot for the Hourman drama in development at The CW. Bleeding Cool surmises the show may have certain elements reminiscent of another DC comic book, Dial H. BC reports:

...the drug "Miraclo" from the comic book series, in the TV show will have a different effect on each person who takes it, summoning different powers and abilities based on their personality, enhancing existing talents or abilities tenfold, but with terrible side effects.

And a different person will get the powers each week…

Michael Caleo (Ironside, The Sopranos) is writing the pilot for Hourman while Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Gangster Squad) and Jennifer Gwartz (Party Down, Veronica Mars) are executive producing. At the time of announcement, it was reported by THR that the series would follow "a brilliant-yet-troubled pharmaceutical analyst who discovers that the visions that have plagued him since childhood are actually glimpses of tragic events occurring one hour in the future. Determined to win back his ex-wife and son, he heroically prevents these tragedies from unfolding, finding both purpose and redemption along the way." Maybe those plans have changed since then or the series has evolved to become a combination of both ideas?

While this new idea sounds more intriguing, the concept is still a few left turns from the character's original depiction in the pages of DC Comics. Hourman is somewhat of a poor man's Superman or a Luke Cage to Thor if you will. But Hourman has the added caveat that the drug he ingests to give himself super strength and super speed only supplies those super powers for an hour. Whether this new description pans out remains to be seen but we'll keep you posted as news on the Hourman show develops.

Oh, and one final thought, is the super power drug presently being developed by Brother Blood (Kevin Alejandro) on The CW's Arrow also called Miraclo?

@ Nomis

I agree with the success of Arrow DC is going to use that show to springboard several shows.

If CW is producing all these DC shows, I hope they are all connected. A lots of crossover episodes, I love that shit.

Arrow is probably the most entertaining thing on TV right now so i will check this out (and the rest DC properties on any network)

The people going to write and produce this show are great. So I take it CW will start going after other more popular TV channels. With bringing in the big guns maybe it will bring in more viewers. Which would bring in more money so better episodes.

I do wish though that Hourman would be the real version that was on the Justice Society. But with the writer to the Sopranos I will for sure be checking this out.

I almost get a Quantum Leap type of vibe from this. Like, each week a new person will have the power, and they have to use it and deal with the "terrible side effects" to solve whatever problem they are having to wrap it up into a nice little bow every week. Hmmm... maybe the next leap.... will be the leap home.

Not a bad idea, though. Not our traditional character, but i can see promise in this.

The Spectre would be better also they were going to do a Raven and a Deadman series that never went anywhere. Hell Eric Kripke(Supernatural) was going to do the Deadman series I think it would have been really good.

So, it's actually Hourman meets Dial "H" for Hero.

That previous description sounded more like Sandman than Hourman. I never knew Hourman to have precog visions or dreams. That was all Sandman.

This new description is more Hourman with a little Dial H thrown in. I like it.

Also, Miraclo was created by Rex Tyler at Tyler Chemical. It's got nothing to do with Arrow's super soldier serum that the Chinese called "miracle" back in WWII.

At least not in the comics. Since it seems Brother Blood has gotten his hands on some form of it, maybe it does become pharmaceutical (and controversial) at some point.

CW network used to be called the WB back when Buffy and Angel were on. It's all under Time Warner.

So I'm guessing no suit then. That sucks. We watch comicbook adaptations to see comics adapted to television/movies. We don't watch them for vaguely similar characters with the same name as a comicbook hero. That's like watching Daredevil run around in a hoodie.
KrazyForKomix
KrazyForKomix - 12/2/2013, 11:17 AM
It's not Sandman. It's not Hourman. It's not even Hourman "with a little Dial H for Hero thrown in. It IS Dial H for Hero ! They decided to change the method of random power selection, but das it.
THAT being said, since I no longer care whether a comic film/TV show is represented with any faithfulness at all, I will do what many of the non-comic fans who enjoy "slumming" on this site do, and just watch it, say how great it is, then criticize comic fans who don't like it merely because the costume's wrong, the origin's wrong, the characterization's wrong, and the powers are wrong.
Such insignificant details.

@WruceBayne

We brought this on ourselves. We thought that everyone would love our comic stories brought to life. But the powers that be "knew" they could "improve" them.
We should have been more careful in what we wished for.

Sounds not so interesting, but there must be more superhero shows and less crap like Shitty-SHIELD agents.

I'm fine with alterations to the story. Who wants to see the same story told over and over again? Most of the complaints about this Hourman sound like they come from people who have never read his series.

What Battabing said. Time Warner owns CBS and WB. CBS and WB own 50% of The CW each.
