Possible Namor Or Atlantis Reference?

Why is shield on the helicarrier on the ocean? Possibly for Namor or Atlantis?

Just a couple of quick thoughts, Namor has been referenced in IM 2 and we know it wasn't for nothing. In the trailers we can see a jet landing on the helicarrier and a vast ocean in the background. If the battle is taking place in New York, then what does the clip in the trailer with helicarrier on the ocean have to do with. Why would the team be out in the middle of "no where" on the ocean for? Maybe this will have something to do with Namor or Atlantis. Secondly whatever the flying creature chasing Iron Man is, it’s surely not a ship, you can see that it has teeth in its mouth and moving wings. Why would a ship have a mouth that opens and closes with teeth in it & flapping wings? I also want to address the Frost Giant rumors, the army can't be Frost Giants because where was all this technology at in the Thor movie. In the Thor movie they appeared to be a very primitive race and had no technology when fighting with Thor and his buddies.

You do realize NYC is surrounded by water right?

No, it's in the water for the exact reason the X-Men's Blackbird is underneath the basket ball court, to stay hidden. Remember, SHIELD is a secret organization. I don't know if it's FFF or not, cool if it is, if it's a ship, that's cool too. Yeah, it's not the Frost Giants, too early for them to trust Loki after killing their king. I think it's gonna be some alien covenant under the control of Thanos, Namor, etc.

I just find it odd that they would place Easter eggs for Namor & Black Panther in previous movies and then not reference them again in this movie.

@Hawkeyez
lol, I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this article.

Sorry I was mistaken, it was the news paper clipping in IM2 (Atlantis found). I do realize that New York is surrounded by water but in that clip they were way out to sea, obviously not near any city and if @TheGambitFreak comment about secrecy is correct, then the helicarrier wouldn't be just off the coast of New York. My question is what purpose does the helicarrier serve in this film, why is it needed if the battle is on land? We saw in the IM 2 movie that Shield has a land based office where Nick Furry explained the Avenger Iniative to Tony so why not meet there? I have learned in all of these movies that the things that seem small & unimportant are actually very important, extraordinary amounts of detail have been put into these movies so far. I'm thinking that they wouldn't put the helicarrier in the movie for no reason except it was in the comics. There's a reason they are out there on the water, if Loki is in New York reeking havoc with an alien race, I'm thinking Shield wanting to maintain their secrecy is the last thing they're thinking about. We shall see though, May 4 2012 is the only way to surely know!

lol wow.. cmon now. You get a small glimpse of not even one side of the helicarrier. Who's to say the opposite side doesn't have new york in the back ground.

When Loki says "u would summon such lost creatures" I got this feeling that maybe another army comes to help earth along side Avengers.. Maybe Atlanteans.. I don't think it's really gonna happen but HEY ya Neva kno..

Lol, how many other things in these trailers have we gotten a glimps of, that everyone has had tons of speculation about? Glimps of the aliens & everyone speculates, glimps of what looks like a bigger arm on Iron Man & all of a sudden Hulk Buster Armor, lol 90% of the things we debate about comes from a glimps and a vivid imagination.

Umm they bring in banner who is in INDIA.. Im guess the helicarrier is parked of the coast waiting for widow to bring banner in.

Also the ship/creature thing is probably both. . A living ship if you will

The Banner in India idea sounds plausible, as to what the helicarrier scene is about.

YEA MAN, IM STILL CURIOUS ABOUT THE ATLANTIS AND AFRICA REFERENCES IN IM2..AND IF IT WILL SOME HOW BE A CONNECTION IN THIS AVENGERS..

AS FOR THE WHY IS THE HELLICARRIER ON THE OCEAN?

SIMPLE...IT IS A AIRCRAFT CARRIER..THAT FLIES ALSO..

THE ONE THING THAT REALLY MAKES ME WONDER IS THE SCENE IN THE EARLIER TRAILERS WE SEE IRONMAN EMERGING FROM WATER...
Pepilapugh
Pepilapugh - 3/2/2012, 7:14 AM
Ahhhhhhh................ Forgot about that, lol I know a boat, ship, or aircraft carrier would be on the water. Once again the question is what is the purpose that the team is on the carrier in the middle of the ocean, like I said we've already seen the land based shield office in Iron Man 2 where Tony was briefed. Why leave land & the city that's being attacked to get on the helicarrier in the middle of the ocean?
ROBBEATZZZ
ROBBEATZZZ - 3/2/2012, 7:36 AM
YEA GOOD QUESTION..WE CAN ONLY SPECULATE..BUT WE STILL DONT KNOW WHAT TIME THIS SCENE TAKES PLACE..

ROBBEATZZZ
ROBBEATZZZ - 3/2/2012, 7:38 AM
AND WE DONT KNOW @ THAT POINT IF THE TEAM IS ACTUALLY PRESENT ON THE CARRIER..IM HOPING THE NAMOR/ BLACK PANTHER REFERENCES WILL BE FURTHER REVEALED IN THIS

Well they do show Captian America & Bruce Banner shaking hands on the helicarrier as if it's their 1st time meeting. The things is there out on the water for a reason, plus we have the scene with Iron Man flying up out of the ocean, something is in the ocean. Why would he be in the ocean for, nothing that we know about the Avengers plot so far has anything to do with the ocean.

I don't know.
Namor is a part of the Fantastic Four universe , so it might be owned by Fox.
I hope not...but it's possible.
Pepilapugh
Pepilapugh - 3/2/2012, 3:35 PM
If it were owned by Fox they would have never referenced Namor at all knowing they couldn't use him.
sikwon
sikwon - 3/2/2012, 7:35 PM
as much as namor is associated with the fantastic four, he has also been an xman and an avenger. the thing that makes the avengers so awesome (mind you im a HUGE xman fan) is that they can incorporate literaly any hero from the marvel universe. from the avengers, unlike almost anyother comic title, they can go in any direction. if spidey popped up during a fight scene no one would be surprised, if cap is about to get demolished and is saved by Punisher giving him sniper coverage no one would be surprised. if the ultimates showed up it would be avengers business as usual. thats part of why we are all so excited about the avengers, because faige is one of us and if they make 3 movies we all know that literaly anything could happen.
