Scott Derrickson Set To Helm "Goliath"! Biblical Adaption Is In The Works!

The "Exorcism of Emily Rose" director intends to adapt a cinematic version of the Bible's famous tale, "David vs Goliath" in the same vein as "300"!

These excerpts are from FirstShowing.net:

"Heat Vision reports director Scott Derrickson, behind The Exorcism of Emily Rose and the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still, is set to helm Goliath, a period action movie based on the familiar tale of David vs. Goliath. While the movie is supposed to be set in historical times, it will have a contemporary feel not unlike 300 with a spirit that apparently embodies Bourne Identity."

"Anyway, our story begins with the warrior Goliath is sent to track down the foretold king of the Israelites as the young shepherd David suddenly finds himself in the middle of an epic chase and adventure that leaves him fighting not just for his own life, but for the very existence of his family and people."

"The script comes from John D. Payne and Patrick McKay who don't seem to have any widely known previous work to their names."

This sounds pretty cool, as long as it's not violent enough to get an R rating.

Mmmmm... Interesting!
I Agree with Bladeshad. This is a Biblical tale that has not been in as awesome a movie as it could be.
King David was quite an interesting fella.
I think a movie more on the lines of Troy would be awesome! 300 is a good movie.

Yay king David, the whole reason why my name is David! lol This sounds epic in concept, but hopefully it wont be too too much like 300, though that may not be a bad thing.

Marvel72, maybe you're not reading the right stories.Religious or not, the stories are anything but boring.Christianity, Hinduism or pagan religions. They all have interesting stories.A lot of comic books and their characters are based on or influenced by different types of religion.

You've got to like some of the classic mythological stories.Greek, Egyptian and so on.Those are part of their religions.

THis actually could be very good. I think a bibical story that could be epic is that Of Samson thats found in the book of Judges. God gives him power and he destroys entire armies by himself, but his weakness is that his power lies in his hair, that would be awesome if done right

awesome. but it would be better if it was aout davids whole life

Wow...finally, the Bible gets a chance to show people how awesome it can be WHILE being the truth that mankind needs!
WarNoodle

Fartman - yup! If its done right, this could be very epic!
RedHood13 - yeah, I agree, the tale of David would be great! I would start the movie off with David up against Goliath in a Gladiator/300 styled look. maybe that will be part two if this does super well! Goliath dies at the end of this one, and then the story then continues on with Davids story in the second part! :D That would sick!
WarNoodle
WarNoodle - 1/9/2011, 9:49 AM
I would also do a movie on Davids mighty men! each of these men made a spartan look bleak in battle!

David & Goliath is one of my favorite bible stories. And Samson! I was hoping they'd do Samson if they ever did another bible story, but ah well. Could be cool!

@ tazmaniak

don't get me wrong greek & norse mythology is really has some awesome stories, but these gods aren't rammed down our throats like other religons.

i don't believe in all that god or jesus stuff about him being the creater of everything.

i believe in darwin theory of evolutiom, you no what i mean for example science has proven that dinosaurs exisited with proof of bones & fossels, but there is no mention of them in the bible.

there is no evidence that anything in the bible actually exsisted or happened, the turin shroud was proven by carbon dating to be fake.

if you want to believe it then its up to you but i think science will prove if god exists or not.

Being an undergrad theology student . . . I approve of this message.

The difficulty with science vs. religion is that there really doesn't need to be any battle.
I believe in God and evolution. I really don't see any difficulty with science exploring the vast reaches from the incredibly simple to the infinitely complex. Religion is the faith aspect that says that there is an order to the universe, a hand that designed it all. Science is the answer to the question, "How?" Religion is the answer to the question, "Why?" This is simply a fragment of my opinion.

@StrangeCosmic

You're right. The battle shouldn't be between science and religion.

It should be between myth and fact.

Benevolent Creator: Not so far fetched.

Zombie Jew Returning from the dead to save us from our own human nature: less so.

The Bible is not a comic book but it is a true story book of events that actually happened and characters of the Bible (Noah,Moses, David, Samson, etc.) were real life people who lived everyday lives but were used greatly by God to accomplish whatever His plans and purposes were. It is also known as the Word of God.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one on CBM that's a firm believer. And there is a BIG difference in joking someone's tastes in comics or cbms and joking someone's belief system. I think this could be really cool, but I really hope that they don't add too much...if you read David's story, you really don't have to. It's amazing.

Besides, you know what else starts wars? Oil, money, land, race...maybe we should get rid of those too?

@Marvel72

Dinosaurs ARE in fact in the Bible. The Bible refers to them as "behemoths" and "leviathan".
http://www.clarifyingchristianity.com/dinos.shtml

There is loads and loads of scientific and true things in the Bible. If you're looking for why Evolution is absolute bull, please check out:
http://www.creationseminar.net/
http://www.creationseminar.net/creation%20resources.htm
The "A Creation Seminar" DVD series is for you. I saw these seminars in person, and it will blow your mind.

Evolution is crap. There is no physical evidence to prove it, it is still a "theory". Did you know that even though it is still at theory, they teach it in schools as if it is a fact? Carbon Dating is flawed as well. And if anybody thinks that the world just randomly happened to be fitted exactly for human life to exist, then you're retarded. There is no way life happened randomly yet included everything we specifically need. That's elementary, my dear Watson.
Bamf7
Bamf7 - 1/9/2011, 12:32 PM
You know why dinosaurs aren't directly addressed in the Bible? Two reasons:

1)How would you explain them to the Jews 6000 years ago that had never even dug up their bones?

But mostly,
2) Jesus wasn't a dinosaur, He didn't come as a dinosaur, and He didn't die to take on the sins of the dinosaurs...so I'm assuming that was not a priority in the story of God bringing us back to Him.
