The story is set in a future where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities. Tris Prior (Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy to destroy all Divergents, she must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it's too late.

DIVERGENT is directed by Neil Burger (Limitless), and is based on a best-selling book series by Veronica Roth. The cast includes: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Ray Stevenson, Mekhi Phifer, Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ashley Judd and Miles Teller. It's set to hit theaters on March 21st, 2014.

I think the problem was that she doesnt look like Mary Jane. Yes you can make the argument that real life and comics differ but when you look at Emma Stone she looks 'exactly' like Gwen Stacy.

The fanboy reaction was merely bandwagoning off a poorly articulated sentiment. Same applies to Gal Gadot. I'm cool with her casting, I've only seen her in F&F but I'm sure there's something the director liked. Having said that I can see how people would cry foul over her and Eisenberg when Cavill looks exactly like Superman.

I never thought she was ugly. She did have some bad pics of her...which looked makeupless walking to the set or the makeup trailer. But I never found her ugly. I just never saw her as the "MJ" type. I look at Emma in the Gwen role and she looks model like. But in the history, MJ is the one that becomes the actress/model....and Shailene Woodley is a great actress (I loved Spectacular Now)and I think she is very pretty, but MJ...she is not... but I still think if she was the MJ we got...I would come around to her sooner then later.

She's the next big thing, she gained Oscar buzz with The Descendants and rightly so.

If you think fanboys have any power over filmmakers decisions about casting then you're wrong,

Also, just to add, now you think about it, the inclusion of MJ would not have fit within the film. TASM2 is all about Peter and Gwen's love, and eventually... her death. If we introduce MJ, have she and Parker flirt a bit, it'll just distract from all the empathy we're supposed to have for Peter and Gwen and this relationship.
