UPDATED: "Computer Says No" (Galactus Responds)

A Rant By A Bitter CBM Fan ...who obviously hasn't taken the time to read our style guide.

Editorial Opinion

Hey yall! Galactus here again with a response to CraptainAmerica's editorial. Obviously he's frustrated because, like so many youth of today, he did not take the time to read "the instructions". So, before I answer these same issues AGAIN, let me just give you this link, which is displayed prominently in overly large BOLD type in our STYLE GUIDE --which is yet another document that tells contributors EXACTLY what we're looking for and what to expect as a contributor on CBM.

Sorry if I sound snarky, but rehashing this for the umpteenth time is getting a bit old. CBM gives people who WANT to contribute to a big site the ABILITY to get that exposure, and if it sucks that not every word you write ends up on the front page (when you have written a whole TWO articles), well, tough titties. Pull your diaper up, figure out what you're doing wrong, and try again. If you can't handle that, go back to your obsure blog that nobody ever reads. This venting is not directed totally at CraptainAmerica per se, but writing editorials bashing CBM and its editors isn't a great way to endear yourself.

Now, I'll just go through Craptain's editorial now and point out where he's being a pussy (my responses in red).

Recently I have decided to try my hardest to contribute to this site. TWO ARTICLES? Or three if you count this editorial which I have NOT deleted. When I joined it was billed as a site for the fan to feed the fan. Over the past week I have made an attempt to write articles that share quotes from interviews with two stars of up and coming CBM's. One was removed having been deemed to have been already posted. Read our policy on duplicates in the above links. As already cited by several in the comments below, we can't allow duplicate content to fill up the site. Kinda obvious answer there. The other I posted after a contributor, so fairly mine wasn't on the main page. Even though mine had word for word quotations (the one that made the main page did not) and additional information regarding another project it was swiftly also removed. Again... Duplicate content. So both had been taken from the site based purely on the title alone because IF the content of both had been viewed prior to deletion then the individual doing the deleting would have seen that it was not a repost (in the first instance) and an accurate interpretation of an interview as well as additional information in comparison to that that was uploaded (in the second instance).

I'm genuinely disappointed that because I am new to posting that because I am not a member of a regular clique I come second when it comes to being an active member of CBM. What is this, High School? I'm REALLY getting tired of hearing this knee jerk "clique" complaint when it comes to the regular contributors and editors who have learned the rules and are just good at doing the things that get their articles fronted. And as you just admitted, your articles were both duplicates. So this "clique" complaint is really just sour grapes. Let me assure everyone who wants to contribute, CBM editors are under orders to champion new contributors even above their own contributions. I have received no reply from either of the accused and that annoys me more that there is no reasoning to what has accured. Not true, our system automatically sends an explanation email to the contributor whenever we delete an article. Now the articles I took the time to write, in detail, and post are now gone completely from my fansite meaning they cease to exist. Unfortunately we are unable to allow content to remain anywhere on the site when it is deleted. It's the duplicate thing again. Since we allow you to add to the site so freely, you have to be sure that what you are adding is not already there. Note: that is why we have the "add this article to your fansite" button on every article, so you can add anyone's content to your fansite.

Another Captain shaped pile of information just came my way but the sour grapes in me feels that it's not worth sharing on account of the way things seem to be run.

On another site I send all my 'fans' here via links whenever a new piece of news is broadcast. I shall continue to do so because of the ease of doing so and not because I endorse the site as a true 'fansite' anymore...it's more a dictatorship overseen by power-hungry Hitlers hellbent on seizing control of what is meant to be the peoples. Comparing the way we run our website to nazi germany is just plain silly, and ad hominem attacks are notorious among those who feel their arguement is weak--which yours is. And don't you just love it when someone feels they need to invoke the name of Hitler?

Also, even though we have worked hard to give our users a sense of ownership on CBM, the reality is that this is a privately owned website and NOT "the peoples". You are privileged to be on CBM Craptain, NOT entitled.

Apologies for the silver tongue and I hope I haven't come across completely spoilt. I just hope it's on here long enough for more than me to see it.
As we have consistently proven, we do not censor unnecessarily--even when we are being unjustly accused by someone who isn't informed. And UNLIKE Hitler, we promote free speech and like to engage in debate here. I just hope YOU'RE big enough to see how you have slighted CBM with this ill-informed editorial. Noting by most of the comments, I am happy to see the majority of CBMers are seeing through your baby tears.

Anyway, I challenge you to try again Craptain. Man UP, write something that isn't already posted and you may just see your article on CBM. But, you'll have to untwist your panties first.

This video seemed appropriate on so many levels... "Does Bono want the biddy?".

i understand that has happed to me before too, but what do you want thousands of the same stories? the thing is, you should try to do some more stories, and maybe they'll be done put up if you try harder you'll get something up... i mean the 3rd time is the charm right? ;) it's not the editors fault they are looking for repeated articles, also in case you didn't know the word for word quotations isn't as good, if you rewrite the article it's deemed better i believe, i think it has something to do with copy writing or something... but idk... sorry this happened but just try to do better next time... and hey it's not that big of a thing is it?

@connor110693: That's not necessarily true. I know editors who have given the excuse that their version of the article had more info.

Hearty advice gentlemen. Taken on board. As I said, the second time was fair enough. The first time wasn't. It was taken down with, most probably, the content not being viewed as it was all new. A regular posted the same days after.

I agree with Shocker, everyone should be treated equal on here. Whoever posts it first should be the one who stays. I posted an article I found on the internet about Vicki Vale in TDKR. True or not, it was deleted for no reason which I do not understand.

My advice at Craptain If you come upon major news that you think someone else found, put a name on the article then post it. After that you can just go back and edit it to your liking so that way yours will be first.
CraptainAmerica
CraptainAmerica - 2/22/2011, 9:05 AM
@manymade1: They were not only deleted from the news feed but from everywhere. They don't even exist in 'My Articles' anymore. That was mainly the reason for my annoyance. I took the time to write them and they have been deleted completely! That's fine if people decide to remove from view to take the glory but to delete allyraces of it so it looks like they found the info solely is out of order. I now dont have any proof of the work I took the time to write and put out

Another one of these? Seriously?
You have contributed 2 articles. I dont mean to sound like an ass but if an editor posts an article before you, then it stays and yours gets deleted. My advice? even though it doesn't show on the main page, always check the news tab to make sure it hasn't already been posted. Sometimes articles take a while to show on the main page. Don't get discouraged. I personally always try to main articles that contain never before seen information...regardless of who posted it. And also, lets be honest, if i have to find a teaser image and track down your linked source just to add more content to your article, then it really isn't your article anymore is it? But i wouldn't do that. This is not about you personally craptain..this applies to anybody who wants to write an article. Please remember that once you SUBMIT an article, you will be unable to go back to it and make edits.

Msk summed that up pretty well. Just for further clarification, it's not always the first one up stays. If the first article that gets posted on a subject is crap (spelling/grammar errors, no images, etc) then it is likely that the second article will be kept. That's a rule that ALL of us editors are to follow.

Also, as other have stated, if it's a duplicate article, whether it's on main or not, we have to get rid of one of them. As Comedian said, the site would be filled with duplicate articles if we didn't and the site would be a damn mess.

You have submitted two articles...don't be discouraged. Keep up the good work and keep submitting. I often have to delete my own articles because they are duplicates. Another bit of advice, try diggin up news on topics, characters, products, etc. that typically doesn't get a lot od exposure. You'd be surprised what you find. As long as it falls under our umbrella of topics that is.

So has the above article been read by the editors? I did post an article first which was deemed to have been posted before but hadn't. It was grammatically fine. That leads me to believe it was deleted based on the title alone. Another editor posted it days later with, near enough, identical content! Where is the answer for this?

As I stated, I had no issue with the second article being deleted from hte news page as it was a duplicate. It was because it was deleted from existence meaning it's not even on my personal page. It's not about whether I've posted two articles or two hundred. Reasoning for these snap decisions by the powers that be deserve actual answers not defensive comment.

So, yes, "another one of these". As for no teaser image. My phone capabilities do not match that of my laptop. Hence, no image. Which someone ;-) actually did add.

I can't comment on what decisions other editors have made. All I know is that when we delete an article, we are to send the contributer an email explaining why the article was deleted.

"Already posted" was the reason for the one that was deleted that hadn't already been posted

Gusto...it was only slightly amusing the first time...the second was even less so

Gaston...After the goings on and lacklustre responses from some I (one of the thousand minions) I firmly know my place

I don't see what the problem is with them getting deleted from existence. Its not like anyone is gonna read it after its deleted.

tea....that's because you sleep with editors. Slut. When will you be over?

CraptainAmerica - 2/22/2011, 1:08 PM
Gusto@ Actually, although the second wasn't funny you can tease a smile out will a third...

MsKyle@ I'm calm. Woosaaaaahhh

Comedian@ As it goes the first was an interview that I watched on TV. I posted the content within 1 hour of watching it. So no, it wasn't a story that had been posted days before. An article the same as my own made the main page days AFTER I had had mine posted then deleted. That is my point.

Manymade@ Well if they get deleted then what the cheese is the point in taking the time to sit through Alan Carr (ergh!) twice just to write them. It ends up being a waste of time (an watching that man damages your eye sight)

Teabag@ Dam you!!! *shakes a fist at your fame*

Am I in the cool clique? God I hope so.

One day I hope to be on main page, and I really don't want to have to make it on my own merit. That's just too much work!

While we're on the topic, I'd really like to take some time to discuss the horrible prejudice against clowns by this site. Specifically the female users. We may be creepy, terrifying, or otherwise off-putting, but damn it we're almost people too!

Hmmmm.... I smell a pissy editorial coming!

I don't know why, i think i'm better off as a commenter. Maybe it's because i'm not that good at writing articles, or maybe it's because i got this thing called a penis, and i gotta use it once in a while. *wink*
