George R.R. Martin is set to develop an adaptation of Roger Zelazny’s 1979 sci-fi/fantasy novel Roadmarks for HBO.

The Game of Thrones author will exec-produce the series, which also has Kalinda Vazquez (Marvel’s Runaways, Once Upon A Time, Star Trek: Discovery) on board as screenwriter.

House of the Dragon executive producer Vince Gerardis will also produce alongside Martin and Vazquez.

Zelazny's book focuses on "a highway that can travel through time, linking all timelines and places together for the very special people who discover it. Some might use it to explore the vast mysteries of the world, but for others, the road might be their only hope to survive, rewrite life-altering mistakes, and create a better future for themselves and the ones they love."

Oh, and this road was created by dragons.

“My career in television started in 1985 when I adapted Roger Zelazny’s Last Defender of Camelot for The Twilight Zone," said Martin. "Roger was a friend, a mentor, and one of the greatest science fiction writers who ever lived. It was an honor to be able to bring his work to television. That is why I am so thrilled to be a part of adapting Roger’s novel Roadmarks for HBO. We have a great book, a great screenwriter in Kalinda Vasquez, and the makings of a wonderful, original show. I look forward to a long and thrilling journey.”

I remember seeing the book when I was younger in school, never read it however. It is cool that Martin gets to adapt a property that’s dedicated to his friend who created it.

@GothamSon - Kingkiller Chronicle is great (Name of the Wind is my favorite book ever), but I just can't imagine how they could ever make a good and faithful adaptation of that series. Side note: when might the third book of that series be cometh?

@Odin - Yeah NOTW is really good; adaptation is in early stages with Lin Manuel Miranda starring/composing the music.

This sadly continues to fuel the reality of how little he cares about finishing his ASOIAF epic. Mind you, he's lacked off on the books when the tv series was still running and we all know how that turned out.

I don't mind him venturing into new territories, good for him broadening his horizons, but as a bloke that has read all of the books, and have been waiting for the conclusion since the dawn of man, he needs to hurry and finishing the TWOW and ADOS if he'll still have the energy.

Finish the books, George.

I just want the last two books man. Why can’t he just focus? 😭😭

If he’s adapting something, someone should contact him about a Fever Dream adaptation, it could make a great limited series.
