JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION Star Bryce Dallas Howard Says Universal Pushed Her To Lose Weight For The Movie

Recently, Bryce Dallas Howard has been doing the rounds to hype up the home entertainment release of Jurassic World Dominion, though Universal Pictures might be regretting that decision based on these comments! We're ecstatic to see the actress speak her mind, though, particularly as she's put the spotlight on some long-standing problems in Hollywood.

Howard has previously talked about pay disparity with co-star Chris Pratt, and she's now explained that studio execs pushed for her to lose weight prior to shooting the threequel.

"What being in this third film allowed, how do I say this, how do I say this, how do I say this…[I’ve] been asked to not use my natural body in cinema," she told Metro (via SFFGazette.com) when they asked what she hopes her role as Claire will mean for women in cinema moving forward.

"On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me," Howard recalls, "because the conversation came up again, 'We need to ask Bryce to lose weight.'

He was like, 'There are lots of different kinds of women on this planet and there are lots of different kinds of women in our film' and I got to do so many stunts that wouldn’t have been possible if I had been dieting."

"So I’m really thrilled [at] all the action I got to do, and I got to do it with my body, she was at her maximum strength, and I hope it is just yet another indication of what’s possible," the actress concluded.

Jurassic World grossed $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office, while Fallen Kingdom earned $1.3 billion. The latest instalment, Dominion, brought in $974 million, and we're willing to bet that not one of those movies lost a cent because of Howard's weight. Instead, her star power more than likely only increased interest in the franchise.

It's crazy that this was a conversation in 2022, though, and it should be interesting to see whether Universal responds. In recent years, Howard has made an impact behind the camera, directing standout episodes of The Mandalorian. Hopefully, she'll continue to work on both sides, though, as she always impresses as a performer.

@Unscrupulous - Maybe he doesn't care about it personally, but obviously that still don't mean everyone has to be cool with Hollywood's nonsensical body standards, no?

@WakandanQueen - Sorry but gaining or losing weight/muscle for a movie role is a completely normal thing to ask an actor to do. That is absolutely something that comes with the job. Seriously, if filmmakers can't even expect that from highly paid actors anymore, then what can they expect them to do?

Besides, it doesn't even sound like Howard was trying to make this some anti-fatshaming statement. She just said that she was asked to do and was glad she didn't end up having to. It's just the media trying to turn everything into a controversy again.

@Drace24 - I don't disagree with the first paragraph. I still think some of the standards for action blockbusters are nonsense. Especially when, in cases of male lead actors like Pratt, well, they are expected to take a shit load of steroids to look a certain way.

Glad you're able to see that Howard isn't crying about anything. That's not something I can say for the person I originally replied to.

@Unscrupulous - Ha had to lose A LOT of weight for Guardians, and that was when he started starring in movies...and he seems to struggle to keep his weight, last Comic Con, he was fat again...his father in law should be more strict with him, lol.

@WakandanQueen - Well, when audiences are supposed to believe the guy from Parks and Rec to be a Navy soldier, then he better looks like a convincing Navy soldier. Again, this is just part of being an actor, which is after all about portraying a role.
