GODZILLA And Titans MonsterVerse Live-Action Series In The Works For Apple TV+

In a somewhat surprising move, Legendary has decided to continue the adventures of Godzilla and his fellow Titans on the small screen, with an untitled series is now in the works for Apple TV+...

The underperformance of Godzilla: King of The Monsters led to speculation that Godzilla Vs. Kong might end up being the final chapter in Legendary's Titans franchise, but the movie ultimately exceeded all expectations at the box office when it roared into theaters early last year during the early days of the pandemic, and it looks like there's still life in the MosnterVerse yet.

Multiple trades are reporting that an untitled TV series featuring Big G and his Titan "pals" is in the works for Apple TV+. Hailing from Legendary Television, the show will be executive produced by Chris Black (Star Trek Enterprise, Outcast), and acclaimed comic book writer Matt Fraction. The pair will also serve as co-creators, with Black on board as showrunner.

We don't have a whole lot to go just yet, but a brief logline tells us: "Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco and the shocking new reality that monsters are real, the series explores one family's journey to uncover its buried secrets and a legacy linking them to the secret organization known as Monarch."

This won't mark the end of the MonsterVerse on the big screen, however, as GVK director Adam Wingard is still said to be in talks to helm the next movie, which is expected to focus on the Son of Godzilla.

What do you guys make of this news? Can a TV series really do Godzilla and the Titans justice?

Not thanks. I enjoyed all the way up until Kong vs Godzilla but that killed any interest I had in the monsterverse.

@Ha1frican - In fairness this seems to be more connected with G2014 so hopefully it will have a more serious tone.

@Ha1frican -GVK was Over the top. Loud. Ridiculous. One note human characters. No limits. No laws. Everything I love in a Godzilla movie.

@Godzilla2000Zer - Matt Fraction is on board, so probably won't lean so serious.

@Gizmoduck - Sure did. I really don’t get peoples issues with KoM I thought it was fine. GvK was pretty awful imo on every level. Sure the KoM human characters were kinda boring but it’s a Kaiju movie that’s always going to be the case. GvK I was actively annoyed by everything in the movie. They somehow made me not care about mechagodzilla which is pretty impressive. It felt like everything bad and cheesy about the old Toho movies with none of the charm and none of real world feel of the previous movies. felt more like a Michael Bay transformers movie than anything else

@Godzilla2000Zer - I’d be fine with a less serious tone if it was just interesting on any level which I didn’t get from GvK. I enjoy pulpy silly kaiju stuff (I loved the first Pacific Rim) but it was just boring AND dumb

@Ha1frican - The main thing going for it is that this show has different talent involved from the previous films so there some potential and hope that they can improve on alot of mistakes.

@Twenty23Three - If you do, make the most of it and watch Ted Lasso it’s worth it. Also recommend the movie Swan Song, it was surprisingly good but noones talking about it bc no one has Apple TV Plus lol

Are they making more movies, dont think they have said anything since Godzilla VS Kong was released

Put Godzilla up against Bagan or destoroyah

Put Kong up against Angurus, Varan and Baragon (they would work well for Kong’s power level) and the hollow earth setting

Twenty23Three - 1/20/2022, 7:09 PM
@dracula - they set up for Mothra to return as well which id love to see. They crammed so many classics into King of Monsters and whilst they were cool to see, it was a shame they couldn’t get their own time to shine

I think movies suit the Godzilla(and King Kong) franchise more. I think a long tv series can make the gimmick feel stale, I don't think there's enough content in there to pull for 10 or so without it feeling repetitive. A good 2 hour or so film is perfect for it, that's just me though.

Twenty23Three - 1/20/2022, 7:10 PM
@EgoEgor - the description to me feels like there might be minimal actual monsters, just people In that world
