Arnold Schwarzenegger's Role In James Cameron's TERMINATOR 6 Has Been Revealed

Chances are Terminator Genisys killed your interest in the franchise but James Cameron is hoping to keep the franchise alive and has now revealed a very unexpected role for Arnold Schwarzenegger...

The Terminator franchise has fallen on hard times with the last three instalments a pale imitation of what came before them. Despite that, creator James Cameron - who remains hard at work on another four Avatar movies - is hoping to produce a sixth instalment which will see Deadpool director Tim Miller take the helm of the project. Could it redeem the series? That obviously remains to be seen.

Now, the filmmaker has revealed that Arnold Schwarzenegger is part of his plans for what comes next and his intention is for this next movie to explore why the T-800 looks the way he does. Okay then.

"Yeah, you got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold? There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from – that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point. Now, the question is, did that person have some sort of meaning to Skynet on WHY they chose that one (Arnold)? Or was it like a whole rack of Terminators and the one that happened to be the Arnold model just happened to be closest to the door going out to the time displacement center and all the others looked different? I’ve asked myself these questions but it’s never been resolved…so stay tuned!"

This is something which was first addressed in a deleted scene from Terminator 3 but it doesn't exactly sound like the most exciting basis for a movie. Cameron praised Terminator Genisys - a movie which tried and failed to reboot the timeline - so whether his vision can still be trusted is hard to say, especially when it's hard to say if there's really any point to a prequel like this actually existing.

Are you guys excited to learn why the T-800 looks like Arnie? Will CGI be used to make him look younger or could this, in fact, be a sequel to the originals? We'll likely find out in the next few years!

WHatever they do, don't make those terminator posters where everyone is randomly screaming...the ones from Genisys should have got someone fired. Immediately.

I'll see it, as I've seen the others. I'd like to see some more conspiracy on the Skynet front. The AI was done...but the real beginning would be nice.

Please just stop with these explanations.

I don't care where the Alien came from.
I don't care who they used as a basis for the Terminator.
I don't care why Anakin went to the Dark Side.

@Dotanuki - unfortunately the makers think you do which is why they will never stop making these movies

In the original The Terminator we see other T-800's in the future scenes with Kyle with different skins so I think that pretty much answers the question.

I don't think the Arnold model should have a super incredible backstory as to why he looks that way, he's just another one off the line and maybe they had limited models as well which is why there's multiple of him.

@FilmStudent -

Unless that super incredible back story plays off one of the greatest fan theories ever...

... T-800 looks like Arnold because it was based off of a certain survivor of an alien encounter, a predator of sorts.

Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer.

Make it happen, Cameron!!

@SKetCH - The user SpockOClock (who seems to be gone now) wrote out a drool worthy plot outline for an AVPVT that used Dutch as the T-800 model 101 basis.

Get rid of Cameron, get Rupert Wyatt and have him give it the Planet of the Apes treatment crossed with Ex Machina where they create this AI that results in a post apocalyptic war over the course of a few films and then after maybe a trilogy do the time travel plot and redo the first 2 films. I hope they skip ahead in the apes franchise and remake the original inside the world theyve set up in the new continuity and the same could work for Terminator

@Ha1frican - I like the idea. It would be cool to see the legend of John Connor be something cool tough. I read somewhere a long time ago that he was supposed to be this great military guy in the future, and then he was mortally wounded. His closest people were able to transfer his mind into a Terminator before he died, and they put his skin on it too so it looked like and was mentally John Connor, but his body was a T-800. So in battle, he always kicked ass, and was able to take shots but somehow survive, and so he became larger than life to the human resistance, who never knew that their legend and savior was a machine.

Now THAT would be something around which to build a trilogy of movies.
