This week, we've seen both Morbius and No Time to Die pushed from the spring to the fall, and it's beginning to feel like Black Widow could be next. That could mean theaters are forced to contend with no major releases until the summer, and it's hard to say whether they will be able to survive.
Now, another blockbuster looks set to make the move to a streaming service, as Variety is reporting that Amazon Prime Video is currently winning a bidding war to acquire The Tomorrow War for a whopping $200 million. The movie, which stars Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, J.K. Simmons, and Mary Lynn Rajskub, scored well at test screenings, and it's been screened to each of the major streamers (including Netflix and Apple TV+).
With such an impressive cast, it's no wonder such a big number is being touted. 2021 is going to be a difficult year for the box office (again), so an original sci-fi story such as this heading to Amazon does make sense. For now, though, it's still scheduled for a July 23rd theatrical release.
Directed by The LEGO Batman Movie's Chris McKay, The Tomorrow War is set in the near future, and focuses on humanity's war against an invading alien force. When scientists find a way to enlist soldiers from the past, the hope is that earth might finally be able to turn the tide.
Are you guys excited for The Tomorrow War, regardless of whether it's on the big or small screen?
