ALIEN Comic Book Series Takes The Xenomorph To An Icy New Location For Deadliest Hunt To Date

The Disney/Fox merger saw the House of Mouse gain far more than just the X-Men, and it was back in 2021 that Marvel Comics first dared to venture into the terrifying, unrelenting world of Alien. Along the way, the publisher explored never-before-seen corners of the iconic horror/science-fiction franchise much to the delight of longtime fans and newcomers alike.

This bold age of Alien comics storytelling now looks set to continue this April with an all-new ongoing series by superstar creators Declan Shalvey and Andrea Broccardo. The pair will continue the riveting work that Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artists Salvador Larroca and Julius Ohta began as they uncover dark new horrors of the Alien mythos.

As first reported on SFFGazette.com, it's said that this exciting new chapter of the Alien legacy will introduce a new cast of characters on a remote world in search of a groundbreaking scientific breakthrough. However, they'll have to quickly decide if their mission is worth it when night falls and they find themselves hunted by the legendary Xenomorph.

Scientist Batya Zahn will do just about anything to get her family off the icy moon where they’ve been conducting research on water conservation. But there's more than glacial springs to find in this forgotten corner of the galaxy. When they discover an extraordinary organism buried in the ice, it won't take long for tensions to heat up. What is hidden in the snow comes forth in the thaw...and no one will be welcoming this spring.

"It's incredibly exciting to take on such a brilliant franchise...the potential for great stories is limitless," Shalvey teases. "I feel like the themes from the films remain quite relevant to today, which makes me feel like we're able to tell contemporary stories set in that iconic universe."

"I'm very much hoping to channel the mood and atmosphere of those films while doing something new and Andrea has done an incredible job of putting the reader in that recognizable world. With this new series, I think we have a really interesting addition to the lore of Alien."

The first issue of Alien arrives in comic book stores on April 26, and you can take a look at some cover art by Dike Ruan, Declan Shalvey, and Gabrielle Dell'Otto below.

So like Alien vs Predator?

I feel like for all the interesting themes to explore, they just keep telling the same story over and over

''I feel like the themes ... remain quite relevant to today''

I have no idea what those themes are to be honest, so I don't see the relevance.

Anyway, I think icy/snowy environments are really cool settings for horror action stories (maybe because of The Thing). Like it more than the abandoned spacestations settings

@bkmeijer1 - it's pretty obvious, the Aliens green acid blood is a metaphor for what would come to be known as toxic masculinity and casting the lead actress with the last name Weaver is a play on the way media outlets weave false narratives to force woke politics. Ridley was the first feminist in human history and Alien is a thinly veiled smear campaign against abortion rights and leftist nazi propaganda.

I love the covers to Marvel Alien books but I started reading the first series but couldn't get into it.

@marvel72 - Same here. And I'm a looooooong time fan that still has many of the original Dark-Horse ALIENS series in my collection. Personally, I'd be more inclined to buy a volume of just the cover-art (portfolio style). I have no interest in the story inside the cover any longer. 🫤

@SuperiorHeckler - I remember having some Alien comics, I think it was Alien Vs Predator and Alien:Earth War both better than the Marvel stuff.

Still great covers though.

Always found the Alien and Predator comic lines have always been victim to their covers.

They'll have an amazing cover but a subpar story and artwork inside. Generally Predator makes for a better comic character too.

@TheDpool - I've actually never read any Alien or Predator comics, only crossover books like Superman vs Aliens, Batman vs Predator, and Superman/Batman vs Aliens/Predator.

But I always wanted to read the original Aliens vs Predator comics.

@CorndogBurglar - you don’t have predator vs justice league, alien vs wildcats, ? They where good darkness and with blade vs predator and alien was good one ., Superman vs terminator was little I can only say pick up if your fan terminator or Superman ., terminator vs alien predator was good as well nice twist look on terminators

@TheDpool - Agree. The inside art-work is ALWAYS several steps down from the cover masterpieces. When it comes to the Xenos, there's really only 3 options: Characters stumble across the killing machines, characters try to control and exploit the killing machines, the killing machines vs another killing machine race (the Predators for example.) 🫤

@CorndogBurglar - I'd suggest looking into some of the Predator storylines. The one off stuff from the 90s and early 00's are often good.

@SuperiorHeckler - I could just be prejudice and prefer Predator because their species has more of a history yet to be unfolded. But I get what you're saying.

Have anyone actually watched the prequel of THE THING 2011 ?!... a bunch of excavators/scientists/engineers went to Antarctica. They found 'something biological' frozen, took it back to their camp. And it broke free and hunt them down one by one... I actually didn't mind it, it was a fun popcorn horror film.
This comic synopsis just reminds me of the film. Please tell me Ur thoughts if u've watched it
