AVATAR: James Cameron Devoted to Franchise

In a recent interview, director James Cameron has made it clear that when it comes to filmmaking he's devoting himself completely to the future of the Avatar franchise, putting into development a number of sequels.

"I’m not interested in developing anything," Cameron said. "I’m in the Avatar business. Period. That’s it. I’m making Avatar 2, Avatar 3, maybe Avatar 4, and I’m not going to produce other people’s movies for them. I’m not interested in taking scripts."

The challenge of this plan, as least as far as Cameron fans are concerned, is the fact that the earliest Avatar 2 will see release is in 2016 - which makes it understandable why Cameron doesn't want to do outside projects. How would he have the time?

I can't believe they can't use the word "Avatar" in any future The Last Airbender series because of these stupid films.

Legend of Korra FTW

What other stories are there to be done with the Avatar movies? You already ripped off Pocahontas with the first film. What makes you think you can do anything original with the sequels James Cameron?

Don't really care but is this dude on the top bitching about The Last Airbender not being able to use Avatar in it's title. IMO That film shouldn't be able to use the word "film" any where near that pile of shit.

He needs to drop that and deliver the finale that Terminator deserves.

The special effects of Avatar were groundbreaking, but the film itself was utter crap IMO. Sorry to anyone who considers such a statement blasphemous, but that's how I see it. I'll be skipping out on the sequels.

The only thing good this film gave us is the technology to let Ruffalo play the Hulk.
Disney, we want MARVEL in the parks, not this garbage!

Effects were great....story had been done a million times before but it was still a good movie.when someone makes a cbm as good as aliens or t2 then you can say all you like about the guy.

I liked Avatar...CGI & storytelling too. I have friends that are from Native tribes, and this movie speaks to the natural wisdom and ancient traditions that are their heritage really beautifully. I'm surprised by all the Avatar-hate on cbm....that being said, I hope the sequel will be improved in CGI and much more in plotting and characters. As gooood and as satisfying a movie-going experience as Avatar 1 was, I did not feel the need to watch it again. It was not a very complex narrative. the concept of Unobtanium is really lazy and just dumb...But the entire planet turning on bad guys at the end was an amazing idea!!!!

Avatar was a really enjoyable experience at the movies. I'll watch every sequel the guy makes twice. Keep it coming Jimmy!

i still don't understand the ballsucking that Cameron gets for mediocre movies. Avatar sucked. outside of pretty cool CGI it was a shit movie. it was a plain and simple rip off of Dances With Wolves, but with giant blue people instead of indians. aside from the visuals in his movies, for the most part he hasn't made something truly good since Terminator 2 and even that was a far cry from the original Terminator.

Yeah, I don't get all the hate that Avatar gets now. Everybody thought it was awesome when it first came out, but now it's cool to hate on it for some reason. Yes, we all know it has the same plot as Dances With Wolves. Except that Dances With Wolves was awesome and won a crap ton of Oscars. So of all the plots that we've see recycled in movies (which happens all the time), that's not a bad one to re-use.

The most disappointing thing about this for me is that it means we're not getting a live-action Battle Angel movie. Cuz that would have been amazeballs
