AVATAR 2 Official Image Introduces Jake And Neytiri's Adopted Human Son As New Plot Details Are Revealed

We're now less than a year away from Avatar 2 finally being released in theaters, and some new story details have been revealed along with a first look at Jake And Neytiri's adopted son, "Spider."

By the time Avatar 2 arrives next Christmas, it will have been thirteen years since we last visited Pandora (unless you've been to Disney World lately). Whether the sequel can find the same box office success as the 2009 movie remains to be seen, but catching up with Jake and Neytiri after all this time promises to be a lot of fun for fans of the first film.

Empire Online recently shared some new details, including the big reveal that our heroes have a family now: Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo'ak (Britain Dalton), and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss). However, while they're all Na'vi, Jake and Neytiri have also adopted a human child: Miles Socorro, a.k.a. Spider, played by Jack Champion.

"Jake took him in but Neytiri always saw him as one of the people who destroyed her home and killed her father," producer Jon Landau tells the site. "So you have all these dynamics playing out. If you look at what Jim does in his movies, he writes in universal themes that are bigger than the genre of any one movie. This time around, we’re taking Jake and Neytiri and building the most universal theme of all around them. Which is family."

"Jake comes from the human world, Neytiri from the Na'vi world. So, they’re like a modern mixed-race couple, raising kids who perhaps feel they don’t belong to one world or another."

A first look at Spider has also been revealed, and this certainly sounds like an intriguing new way of exploring the dynamic between the two leads (played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana). Filmmaker James Cameron has big plans for the franchise beyond the sequel, though Avatar 2 arrives on December 16, 2022. Hopefully, a trailer for the movie will be with us in the coming months.
