As promised, during halftime of tonight's Monday Night Football game, 20th Century Studios released the official final trailer for James Cameron's long-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water, and it's absolutely breathtaking.

The trailer has plenty of new footage, and unsurprisingly doesn't reveal much in terms of plot details. However, thanks to the synopsis, we know the story will be all about family, picking up, "more than a decade after the events of the first film," and starting to "tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure."

The cast will feature Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Jamie Flatters, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, Filip Geljo, Duane Evans Jr., CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, CJ Jones, Alicia Vela-Bailey, Jack Champion, Joel David Moore, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, and Jemaine Clement.

Check out the final trailer below:

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, “Avatar: The Way of Water” begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the Lightstorm Entertainment Production stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet. Screenplay by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. Story by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver & Josh Friedman & Shane Salerno. David Valdes and Richard Baneham serve as the film’s executive producers.

The teaser trailer was far better by a wide right mile.

And, "The motion picture event... of a generation."

P.S. It does not elude me that the generation-thing factors into the family-centric plot.

@MosquitoFarmer - I thought the teaser trailer was pretty underwhelming whereas the two trailers that followed were pretty good (and visually stunning).

@HeavyMetal4Life - Gosh darnit! I meant the official trailer...

(P.S. Go see Club Dread, folks. It's stupidly funny.)

@MosquitoFarmer - Yes, there's the actual film, and then there's "marketing" ("The motion picture event...), and sometimes they are actually related!

All I'm getting from these trailers is that the whole movie is just a 3 hour long version of the riding scene from the first one with an action scene at the end.

The synopsis sounds generic beyond oblivion but the movie itself might be a more interesting take on the “protect my family” trope. Trailer is ok for an animated movie

Sorry all but seems like its going down the Star Wars route. Outcasts having to be accepted in new village, newbie having to master a flying creature (albeit underwater), cool new creatures and big end battle with human baddies. Lol, same plot as last time give or take.

Flop.

@BARBER23 - As far as breaking even or turning a profit, yeah i think it will flop. I read an article where Cameron basically says Avatar 2 (not 2 AND 3) needs to be the 3rd or 4th highest grossing movie ever to break even. That's over 2 billi.

I do think it will hit 1 billi though and will likely be the number 1 movie for a couple months.

So, yes and no on that flop i'd say. They already got my money though!

@UniqNo - right on man. I’m just salty cause Avatar reclaimed the throne over Avengers. I thought that was a chicken shit move by Cameron. He’s such a douche bag!! So ya, I hope the sequels flop. Just because it’s him.

You’d think with the advances in CGI since 2009 the Navi would look more photorealistic. They still look like cartoons.

I’m not impressed.

@TyrantBossMedia - I dunno, I think all the stuff on/in water which was actually mocapped looks quite good. I do understand though that it's not the first time we're seeing them, so the technical advancements may not be so noticeable.

I can imagine it may look even better on the big screen though.

Will you be watching? I'm interested, not sure about the run time though, but Cameron does normally manage to keep my interest.

@TyrantBossMedia - Yeah I think that is what I am having a problem with. It feels like it could be a pixar movie or something. I liked that the first one was grounded in the human world and Pandora felt like this magical escape. The full CGI all the time look of this one makes me less interested.

I am once again saying, this is the same movie as the last but on water.
Literally the learning to ride the new creature scene, then encountering other sea animals scene, then joking a new community plot , then human baddies invade new community.

Literally the same but with water 👀

But this is the even of a Generation, I guess.

CGI looks great but there’s nothing new here.

More breathtaking than I could have imagined? How in the F does this writer know how good our imagination is?

And I've never seen any trailer that took my breath away. Is that even a thing in the real world?

I only enjoyed the first one because of the 3D, so I don't care if the plot is similar to the first one. I'm only going to see this because of the 3D visuals.

I want to kick DC and Marvel in the face, when I see CGI like this. They spend so much money on these movies, but in comparison to A2 they look like a decade behind.

Ok... I've been hating on this for a quite awhile. But that actually looks good, like REALLY GOOD. Far better trailer. Didn't like the first one because of the derivative nature of the first film, but if he's going more personal and hopefully more original with this one then I more open to it.

Visually, it looks super impressive. I was hating on it but I gotta say this trailer is impressed me more than I thought it would.

So, it’s basically the same movie as the first, the same plot but now with their children and water.
