Peter Berg (Hancock) produces and directs Battleship, an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force. Inspired by Hasbro's classic naval combat game, Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper's fiancee; Alexander Skarsgard as Hopper's older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper's crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone's superior (and Sam's father), Admiral Shane.

I guess opinions of the movie differ among us, particular with regards to what expectations were.
I myself went in with expectations of "They made a MOVIE out of a f*cking BOARD GAME?!?!?! What the hell are they smoking in these studio meetings?! Well at least I don't have to expect an in depth story or anything."
Guess what? I wasn't disappointed. In fact I was actually rather impressed by the scope of something that originated from "C-4. Miss? Crap." And it was a good action romp. Just brain candy, no nutritional value whatsoever. And for what it was, it was pretty damn good.

If Liam Neeson would have been the star of the film. I definitely would have watched it.

The very fact that they gave Rihanna her role instead of Katee Sackhoff, who auditioned for it, shows the level of pandering [frick]ing failure of this move.

This kind of money grabbing garbage only deserves to be in a dumpster. Even though I like Taylor Kitsch and Liam Neeson.

Isn't it a great shame when fantastic concept art, design and 3dsMax / Zbrush 4 modelling is wasted when a director takes said work and makes an utterly crappy movie with it all.

Still, either which way ILM still get paid and their work is untainted. But still... shame.

I thought the film itself was good, however the dialogue was atrocious. some of the dumbest dialogue I've ever heard.

Maybe it was all the negative reviews but i found it to be an entertaining escape on bluray. I liked Battle Los Angeles and I liked Battleship. These are real man type movies for guys who like big ships, big guns, big patriotism, and big bravado. I just dont think little nerds and geeks can relate to these things anymore and frankly feel a little threatned by the subject matter. Loved all the footage of our naval fleet, reminded me of The Final Countdown with Kirk Douglas....which was great.

I enjoyed this movie. It was better than the Transformers movies. Only problem with it was the casting of Rhiana.

Sorry, I guess I'm being overly negative. I mean the design concepts are kinda cool, but there's just this HUGE feeling of "been there, seen that before" with these things. Almost every sci-fi movie these days has aliens in it, and a good deal of them have lackluster designs. They could have done so many other unique and amazing things with these aliens, but they seem to have just stuck to the mold...
