Captain America's Hayley Atwell Joins The Return Of Captain Nemo

From one Cap to another. Deadline report that a $10 Million 3D (of course) sequel to the classic 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is in development and Atwell (Peggy Carter in Captain America: TFA) will star alongside David Morrissey..

This came out of nowhere. But it is a fairly small project, in fact next to Disney's planned $150 Million version of 20,000 Leagues this would have to be considered indie. Anyway, Deadline have revealed quite a few details on the flick which will see a return to the screen for the famous hero of literature perhaps best known to comic book fans from Alan Moore's League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The movie will be produced by Shoreline Entertainment and directed by Pearry Teo. Starring Atwell, Morrissey and Hugh Bonneville as Nemo himself. Here is an excerpt from Deadline's article..

Like 300, this Captain Nemo adventure will be shot entirely on stage using green screen and CGI. “We would have to double our production costs if we shot this in the States,” Producer Amy Krell says. Shoreline Entertainment is selling The Return of Captain Nemo, which will be directed by Pearry Teo. Atwell will play Sara, while [David] Morrissey plays her uncle, chief adviser to President Ulysses S Grant, who frees Nemo from prison to try and discover what the mysterious “sea monsters” are sinking ships up and down the Atlantic Coast. Hugh Bonneville, star of PBS/ITV period drama Downton Abbey, has already been announced as Nemo. This steampunk version features some rather cool designs, such as a 19th-century Air Force One and of course, the Nautilus. Atwell’s UK rep Hamilton Hodell stresses that the actress will disembark if she is offered a co-lead opposite Tom Cruise in the $100 million Oblivion, which she has tested for alongside Diane Kruger and Kate Beckinsale.

So Atwell is locked in, unless she wins the better role! If this project does get off the ground it will arrive before Disney's movie which is currently (said to be) back in development under director David Fincher. The Return Of Captain Nemo hopes to start shooting January 16th.

Tea tells it like it is.

I hope this movie is actually good, and doesn't fall into the pitfalls for the genre that captured such films as Van Helsing and The Three Musketeers.

@Fastestmanalive- Hunh. Thanx man.
I read H.G.Wells 'The Time Machine'- it was awesome.
Also 'The twelve labours of Hercules'- also very cool.
It's funny- something so ancient is still very interesting.
But you're a better man than me, other than Shakespeare,
they're the only classics I've ever read.(except high school requirements,i.e. 'Catcher in the Rye, etc.-hated it).

@headlopper
Yea Time machine was an awesome book, H.G. Wells really had an imagintation well beyond his time period with the invisible man and his famous world of the worlds, (which was also a great classic read), and the first men in the moon.

Shakespeare does not count, the only thing I ever read from him was Macbeth and I hated it.

And high school requirements usually suck, (a seperat peace, uhg!!) But books like Dracula or The Island of Doctor Moreau are great adventures, almost as good as comic books.

Almost.

You know Jules Verne really did write a sequel to 20,000 Leagues it was called "The Mysterious Island". This movie sounds nothing like that.

Mark Strong or Javier Bardem would be great choice.

@AlexDeLarge87 and MrBlueSky Captain Nemo was from India so he should not be played by European.
