Damon Lindelof's Early Version of the PROMETHEUS Script Surfaces Online

Following the leak of Jon Spaihts' Alien: Engineers script earlier this week, the draft of the Prometheus script written by Damon Lindelof, entitled Paradise, has also recently surfaced online. Curious of how it's different from Spaihts' draft, or the final version of the movie itself? Find out for yourself after the jump.

Ridley Scott's Prometheus was penned by two screenwriters, Jon Spaihts and Damon Lindelof. And while the former's version of the script, titled Alien: Engineers, has made its way online a few days ago (you can find it here), Steven Weintraub of Collider has recently published Damon Lindelof's Paradise script to the web, with the writer himself verifying the authenticity of the script via his Twitter account. Although it admittedly doesn't differ much from the final version of Lindelof's script that became Prometheus, it sure is still worth checking out. With a thanks to the Prometheus Movie Forum for the heads-up, click on the image below to read the script for yourself...

Prometheus follows a team of scientists who travel through the universe on the spaceship "Prometheus" on a voyage to investigate alien life forms. The team of scientists becomes stranded on an Alien world, and as they struggle to survive it becomes clear that the horrors they experience are not just a threat to themselves, but to all of mankind. Under the direction of Ridley Scott and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Logan Marshall Green, Idris Elba, and Guy Pearce, the movie was released on May 31, 2012.

almost identical, though some of those missing scenes were done in concept art, mainly the final scene with the deacon

Saw Prometheus a day or two ago... I can understand why some folks are frustrated. It pretty much half-asses the whole Chariots Of The Gods/Alien prequel concept. Had a lot of potential. It really felt like a watered-down-trilogy-set-up.

Ridley Scott's direction was perfect. The scripting had an intelligent thesis, however, in the end, felt restricted by 20th Century Fox's demands (don't push it to NC-17, don't go over two hours, etc). Anyway, I just saved this screenplay in iBooks.

Imagine if Ridley Scott had been allowed to make this film without Fox's demands.

I did not mind the plot holes so much as the fact that the tone shifted from a space odyssey to a sci-fi horror film to an alien invasion film and it did not fit together. Big disappointment.

I'm not sure what people wanted but I loved it, I liked it more then a lot of other movies this year. Ridley even said it was not a prequel or anything to the alien movie,

I for one loved this movie, it did have some issues but it was way better TAS, which everybody seems to love.

The entire movie turned out to be pretentious crap masquerading as intelligent scifi. It had sequences so badly contrived that they made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Its a movie of far too many cooks all wanting to make a different dish. Fox wanted a formatted ignition to a new franchise they could make money out of fanboys with. One writer wanted to make a gore fest with multiple creatures the other wanted to make a scientific exploration that questions our origins and our religious beliefs and Ridley just wanted to make a film that can allow him to explore his love for visuals.

In the end we ended up with this Frankenstein of a flick that is basically six of one and half a dozen of the other!

The film had so much cheese it should be called a cheeseburger. I was surprised at the outcome considering Ridley Scott was the director.

Ridley Scott is the best movie director there is. Most people who didn't like "Prometheus" didn't understand it. This great movie is about one possible step in mankind's evolution. I loved the whole concept about creation, & how new life is born. Just my humble opinion and I do respect other opinions. My favorite part of this site is reading your great commentary on things like this. :)

Disappointed with it on the big screen but gets a hell of a lot better with repeated viewing on Blu Ray.

you would have to work pretty hard to make a film with more plot holes.

okay, the captain goes to visit charlize in her cabin, & the stranded crewmen call in for help, but he's gone, so no one hears. what, they don't have a communications system on the ship? or not even CELL PHONES? seriously, do they really think the audience is THAT stupid? i guess so.

and it went on and on and on and on like that.

"The film was a beautifully filmed piece of shit."

Simply put. I like that.

I liked Prometheus, that doesn't mean I wasn't hoping for more. Prometheus exceeded on so many levels. Great casting, acting, directing, cinematography, special effects, score, the grand scope of the film and even the plot IDEA were all perfectly executed.

What it failed on was the writing. The pure idiocy of some of the "brilliant" scientists on board, the naivete of the lead, the faux alien and planet fakeout, and the ending, where after all of that, she still wants to meet the creatures that would like to kill off her planet. Only this time alone with a broken droid. Oh and did I mention the the faux alien. FAIL.

Well that was the version of the film that I was hoping for.By incorporating both the Alien origins and the story of the engineers it would have kept the film original and not just visually stunning remake of 1979's Alien. They definitely dropped the ball on this one,no one in space can hear you scream but my god you could hear me scream in anger at London's Imax screen during the summer!!!
