ETERNALS Star Barry Keoghan Confirms That He Was Up For The Role Of Feyd-Rautha In DUNE: PART 2

You may recall that late last year, Barry Keoghan (Eternals, The Banshees of Inisherin) prompted speculation that he might have been cast in Dune: Part 2 when he sent out a cryptic Tweet immediately following the announcement that Denis Villeneuve's sequel has been officially greenlit.

It wasn't much to go on, and Keoghan would later downplay the rumor in interviews, but the actor has now confirmed that he did indeed audition for the role of the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

“I really enjoyed that process [of auditioning]," he told the New York Times. "I’m a big fan of Dune, and it would’ve been nice to be part of it. I’m a big fan of Timothée [Chalamet] as well. But it wasn’t for me. You have to accept that sometimes.”

Elvis star Austin Butler ultimately landed the part, but many feel Keoghan would have been a perfect choice to play Feyd.

In Frank Herbert's novel, Feyd is the younger nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, and is almost as cruel and cunning as his grotesque uncle. Many fans were surprised that the character didn't appear in Part One, but he will almost certainly play a prominent role as a principal antagonist in the sequel. Sting played Feyd in David Lynch's '80s adaptation.

Butler joins fellow new cast members Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, the legendary Christopher Walken as her father, The Emperor, and Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot Fenring. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Josh Brolin, and Dave Bautista will reprise their roles from the first film.

A recently released synopsis reads, “Part Two will focus on Paul assembling a massive army of Fremen to combat the ruthless Harkonnen, as he essentially becomes a mythical messiah figure to the inhabitants of Arrakis.”

Dune: Part Two was recently pushed back from October 20, 2023 to November 17, 2023.

This guy is gonna be a big time actor, already seems like one of the most wanted actors in Hollywood, spread by his indy work, his role in Marvel, and of course as officer Stanley Merkel in Batman...

Also saw Banshees of Inisherin this past weekend. I think huge contender for Original Screenplay this year. Hard to compete with the year we had, but it plays with the big dogs.

@DannRamm113 - I still haven't had a chance to see it... which is a bit shameful really. Hopefully this weekend.

He's a fine young talent with quite the resume already... He'll continue to go far.

I'm still a little perplexed though.... was his psuedo joker (not quite joker yet) Irish? or was it that his accent is so thick it still stuck out? It wasn't bad, but it did remind me of that time Swarzenegger tried a Texas accent on the deleted scenes for T3 Rise of the Machines

great young actor who’s building a really impressive resume, but butler was so good in elvis that it’s not a huge loss. hope we see his joker in that arkham show, ik he’s divisive but he has a lot of potential in the role

This dude made my stomach and lungs hurt from laughing. He is amazing in Banshees of Inisherin. He is impeccable at playing the Idiot or the clown. Then he can move you with his dramatic acting. Incredible actor.

He is an excellent actor and would have done a great job, but Elvis proved that Austin Butler has exactly the sex appeal thay Feyd-Rautha is supposed to have. He’s a vicious Harkonnen, but he’s not hideous like his cousins.
