In the near future, a hostile alien race (called the Formics) have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander, Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young children to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy, but strategically brilliant boy is pulled out of his school to join the elite.

Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult war games, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military’s next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he’s trained by Mazer Rackham, himself, to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Ender's Game stars Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford, Sir Ben Kingsley, Hailee Steinfeld, Viola Davis and Abigail Breslin, and will open in theaters November 1st.

Yeah Marvel don't think that just because there are kids that it is anything like the Hunger Games. It is a very different story with very different theme. Besides even if you found some similarity it would likely be because HG ripped this story off. It has been around a lot longer and has been a huge influence on the SciFi genre.

Supporting the bigot? Probably twice if the movie is anything like the book.

Not everyone will have the same beliefs as what people want them to have. Grow some thicker skin. His opinion is just his own. Most people don't give a crap who people screw on their own time. They just give a crap when whiners have the "LOOK AT ME! APPRECIATE ME!" mentality.

Don't like the writer, don't see the movie. But this movie WILL make a killing because the fans of the story are legion.

Alright, you're a fascist.

There is a huge amount of misinformation about Orson Scott Card. He is a lifelong Mormon, and follows the LDS Church's position that homosexuality is wrong. So do Muslims, Hindus, Bhuddists, Jews and the majority of Christian denominations. He openly opposes Gay Marriage, but so do a lot of people -- Over 20 states actually have laws or constitutional amendments prohibiting gay marriage. He was a Democrat until fairly recently, when he said that he felt the Democratic party had moved too far to the left.

If you are calling him a fascist, then "that word doesn't mean what you think it means." Just because he follows his faith (as do a lot of other people), does not mean that he is a "bigot." Sadly, most people seem to believe the incorrect stuff written about him on the Internet because, as we all know, "They can't put anything on the Internet that isn't true." Personally, I like to see what the guy has actually said on a topic before condemning him.

Personally, I don't agree with several of his positions, but he should have a right to take those positions without being mischaracterized and condemned when he has a religious basis for his positions.

I loved Ender's Game, and I always thought it could make a good movie in the right hands. They have Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley cast in two of the key roles, so that's looking pretty good.

@TriCoreBase -- Logically, your conclusions do not follow the quote you gave. He never says "child" or "all." He says that SOME Homosexuals were initiated in to the "homosexual community" by abusive means, and that SOME want to get out of the "homosexual community" to "live normally" (whatever that may mean). Your statement is a perfect example of how statements can be distorted. Don't say "Ergo" unless logic actually supports your conclusion.

This is a common problem when people want to insert their own opinions to attack someone else. Seek to understand what the guy actually wrote rather than seeing it through your own filter.

He may be suggesting that SOME gay men are introduced to the "homosexual community" through abuse that might have happened when they were underage, but he does not actually say anything about age. Still, extending what he said to ALL gay people is clearly not what he said.

Also, his opinions are based upon a religious basis -- that God has condemned homosexuality. (I don't agree with that, but I understand his view.) If you condemn him for following his faith, then you should equally condemn every Muslim, Catholic, etc. who also follows his or her faith. (By the way, Harry Reid, Democratic Majority Leader in the Senate, is also a Mormon. Is he a "bigot?)

I know some gay dudes who love this book. the writer is a bigot but I'm sure there is plenty of films/comics/shows/books ect that you love , but if you met the writer ect You might want to punch them in the face for their personal beliefs ect.

ECT ECT ECT ECT .....

what do they say "never meet your hero" ? I guess my point is that... People can create wonderful things but also be the biggest douchebags you could have ever met.

@Godzillafart, "actively lobbied to rob people of their rights?" That's not exactly true, and is certainly subject to interpretation. Gay Marriage is not a "right."

There is nothing in the Constitution, one way or another, that says anything about Gay Marriage (despite what some California courts may say). I am pretty confident that if you could ask the authors of the Constitution whether they intended to create a "right" of Gay Marriage, they would say "NO!" "Marriage" of any kind is not mentioned anywhere in the Constitution.

Because it is not mentioned in the Constitution, the Tenth Amendment would preserve the issue for determination by the States. Until recently, most states had a prohibition against gay marriage. Society has recently changed to become more accepting of homosexuality, so some states have legalized gay marriage. Other communities (like where I live) have a Domestic Partner Registry that provides most of the same advantages as marriage, but the community cannot permit Gay Marriage because the State has a Constitutional Amendment that restricts marriage to its traditional definition.

I hate the "name-calling" of labeling someone a "bigot" or "racist" without facts to support the claim, which has become so common. If you have actual support for the claim, then that's another thing. But just because someone has taken a political or social position on a debatable topic does not mean that a person should be attacked and demeaned personally. You may not agree with him, but that does not mean that he has ever taken any action to merit being called a "bigot."

No, I don't care into what moist hole you, Card, or anyone else sticks their thing. Really not my affair.

never heard of it,that is why i asked.i don't want no teen romance shit like hunger games.
localman22
localman22 - 2/20/2013, 10:54 AM
Ender's Game is nothing like Hunger Games, or Harry Potter, or Twilight. No romance in it whatsoever, if they follow the book.

Earth had been attacked 80 years earlier and had barely survived. To prepare for the next battle, "Special" kids (almost all boys, but I suspect they will add more girls for the movie) are taken by the military (at the age of 5 or 6) to train at a Battle School using war games. Teams are set up, but kids can be traded between teams.

The best graduates from Battle School are then taken to Command School to train for the actual battles against the alien forces.

Harrison Ford plays the Commander of the Battle School. Ben Kingsley plays the Commander who saved the Earth in the first battle 80 years earlier.

@ Marvel72... the story really isn't about a romance... much less a teen romance. It's about developing the soldiers of tomorrow to prepare for a future invasion. The best of the best assembled to be trained for the worst along with all the politics of vying to be the best in a competitive environment.

Boy are you wrong. While I have no problem not giving this dips*it any of my money, he sits on the board of NOM (National Organization for Marriage) which means he makes decisions as to what NOM does. NOM actively promotes lies and discrimination agains the gay community and acts to pass laws keeping tax-paying citizens whose lives he disagrees with from equal rights based solely on his religion and propaganda. If that isn't the definition of a bigot, I don't know what is.

You do realize people can get you fired up way too easily? Welcome to the internet.

I wonder how the modern gay society would view Jack Tripper from Three's Company now considering how he only "pretended" to be gay? :)

Yeah. Hitting a tangent. Deep breath man. You are entitled to your opinion just like Card, but you prove yourself ignorant by personally attacking others points of view in a non structured manner. WE don't care, but we do love people on their soapboxes getting beat down in threads.
2 strike = injection? for what? hating on gays?

This is comicbookmovie.com after all. I'm sure none of us were ever geeks with issues of our own ;)
