Monster Madness has fast gripped Kaiju fans all over the globe, and here on CBM it seems we’re no different. We’re just as prone to go nuts over any tidbit we can glean from a movie trailer, usually to satisfy our curiosity, but mostly it's for a quick fix. I posted screengrabs of the most recent trailer with some theories about what we’re all observing. Here are some new screengrabs fresh off the trailer to help us gain more perspective one frame at a time.

What’s missing from this image?>

If you read the caption on the image, the answer I believe that is pertinent…Tracks. We already know how enormous in size this (possibly these) creature(s) are. The space depicted in the scene is arguably just a commercial airline crash site, but most likely is subject to the same “Jetwash” issue we saw knocking the combat squadron out of the sky. One CBM member posted in the comments of my previous article.

it could be a version of Rodan, the jets start spiraling out of the sky. im no jet engineer but dont jets normally spiral like that when the winds get to intense? could they be falling because rodan is flapping his wings using creating a massive gust of wind. Praise Lord Helix and the Almighty Trinity

Early rumors of the film from fans, websites, and Comic-Cons stated potentially two insectoid creatures that would be antagonists in the story. If this is true, then potentially some of the screengrabs we’ve seen are slowly teasing their appearances, such as this next frame.

Could this be a sighting of Gigan, Kamacuras, or maybe Megalon?

Godzilla has a variety of scaless and protrusions on his back and head. The trailer shows very clearly, in the above frame, a straight line of such appendages. These appendages very much are looking like horns, are rampaging through the train track. Which means in this particular image it is not Godzilla. Or so I speculate.

Godzilla_11

Godzilla’s scaless and appendages look like this, not one neatly lined up row

Another CBM user made a comment about Gigan:

The claw looks to me like one of Gigan's arms, could be him aswell...

This comment was followed by many others speculating and pointing out more information about the rumored Insectoids, the Kamacuras. Folks over at Godzilla Movies have some interesting insight in this regard.

If we go back to some of the early interviews with the director, he never denied that the OLD Toho monsters would be used, but he also never confirmed that he would use THOSE monsters. Chances are we are getting hybridized variations of those concepts as completely new Kaiju.

Consider this next screengrab.

Are we still looking at Godzilla here?

I’ve been wondering about this particular image. There are sections that have red lighting on it, that hides itself within the red light of the flares. But if you look back at the screengrag I dropped of the ‘talon’ that folks speculate can belong to Rodan, Gigan, Kamacuras, or possibly a variation on all three. You’ll see the same red lighting profile on a section of the talon.

I know these Kaiju are huge, but this would be a beyond-enormous version of whichever monster it is reprising.

More individual rows of scales…

Debates whether or not something similar to Gamera appearing were fresh early on, while I don’t think anything like Gamera will be popping up in the film, I still wonder what I am looking at, when I see images like this one.

Then of course there is the last image I pulled so far from this trailer. An image that is a bit strange. But I wonder if I am looking at something that intends to date itself to the 1950’s or if I am looking at something that is modern.

Godzilla_10

Obvious old-school hydrogen bomb is obvious…but wait it has a Kaiju on it?”

When you compare this image to the image of the missiles carried by rail, you have to wonder if it is simply an image from a flashback. But if it is an image of a flashback, why does it have a Kaiju on it? Especially such a crappy image of a Kaiju at that. Think of roach spray…There are billions of roaches all over the world. When you see a picture of a roach with the universal symbol for “No” or “banned” over it, you understand that this is for killing roaches. That said how many Kaiju are known to be in existence? We hear Ken Watanabe’s character talking about what was done in 1954 to “kill it…” We also hear the dialogue state that the nuclear tests were a smoke screen. How long has this battle against Kaiju been running? Obviously we see the bone graveyard of a massive Kaiju. We also don’t know what the reddish/orange orbs I pointed out are, even though we all are thinking eggsacks…

What we have are amazing new questions to fuel the fire of fandom. If you haven't checked out the first piece with the screengrabs, find it HERE
