I recently got a chance to attend The Lexington Comic and Toy Convention. During the Power Rangers Zeo reunion, Jason David Frank, also know as The Green Ranger, spoke a little bit about how he wanted a darker version of the "Power Rangers."

I think Haim Saban is very silly not to take those Rangers that we were and make a Dark Knight series out of it for you guys.

It would be nice if they did something like that, something a little bit more darkish; use those characters; take the White Ranger back, make it like Batman or something. Thats cool as long as you punch someone in the face

I am sure if Fox still had rights to "Power Rangers" we would probably see something like this. Sound off below

I'd watch it if they did it right. But I doubt it would happen. It's a kid's franchise and dont think the studio would change that.

A darker Power Rangers movie could work. Never was a fan of the franchise, but I would see a new movie if done right.

That's like trying to get a Sperm Whale and a Jack Rabbit to mate. It's just not gonna happen!

How about a darker Teletubbies movie while we're at it?:)

Seriously, I loved some childish stuff when I was growing up but even as a kid watching that show I knew how awful it was.

I think a Power Rangers reboot could be cool. Personally I'd like to see it as a series somewhat in the style of the Battlestar Galactica reboot. The problem with doing a series though is that all of the battle footage for Power Rangers comes from Japanese shows. I think a reboot series would need to be produced entirely by the western team, which would drive up costs.

Could a movie series work? Sure. Film 1 could be the origin and the first battle against Rita, film 2 could focus on the Green Ranger Saga and film 3 could bring in Lord Zed. I wouldn't go beyond that to be honest. I think the appeal of any kind or reboot would be to bring the original characters back and to give it a more serious tone.

If it was up to me, the first film would have Rita leading a full scale invasion of Earth. You'd have people dying, a lot of desperation and loss hope hope. The Rangers themselves wouldn't just be five random teenagers, they'd be people actively showing courage and selflessness throughout the invasion. Basically, make it a war movie.

I'd also make Alpha 5 the most sarcastic robot in history...but that's just me.

Power Rangers is all my son talks about right now. I have to admit, I didn't know they had so many off shoots. None of which I can get into with him, but a dark take on the Power Rangers, or even an animated version would given new vision to what seems to be a saturated concept at this point.

It doesn't transcend enough generations. Perhaps in 20-25 years you could see the franchise resurrected in something a little more adult. Although it couldn't be teenagers. Perhaps if the Power Rangers were like a cross between the green lantern corps and Navy seals, and it's focus is about a war that has spilled it's way over to earth.

I mean it CAN be done, but it shouldn't be done anytime in the near future.

I never liked the Power Rangers. But I was a bit older when it first came out, so that could be why. I always found it to be cheesy and annoying to no end. Give me BTAS any day of this shite.

Power Rangers were cheesy, over-the-top, and anvilicious... and DAMN proud of it.

That said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Power Rangers taken in a more realistic direction and would certainly pay to see a dark reboot.

Hell, I thought the original Cloverfield trailer was a trailer FOR a darker take on Power Rangers.
