J.J Abrams Talks MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 5, The Finale Of FRINGE And Daniel Craft's Death

Talking at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour yesterday, Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams was quizzed on the current progress in the development of the next instalment in the Mission Impossible franchise after the success of Brad Bird's critically acclaimed Ghost Protocol back in 2011. "We’re working right now on getting a writer," he revealed. "We’re a minute away from being able to discuss that. We have a pretty cool general idea for where this thing is going to go. Tom [Cruise] and Bryan Burk and I couldn’t be more excited about it." As for whether or not we will see the return of any familiar faces other than Cruise (such as Jeremy Renner's 'William Brandt'), Abrams remained coy, but did promise that the film will be a spectacle.

Moving on to the small screen, the director revealed that while he has yet to watch the finale of Fringe, he's confident that those who have stuck with the beloved series for five seasons won't be disappointed. "I have not seen it. But, the cut has just come in, apparently. I could go watch it right now. If it’s not satisfying, I don’t know what satisfying is. Yes, I think it will be satisfying." Finally, talk turned to a far more sombre subject as Abrams was asked to comment on the death of Daniel Craft; the Stare Trek fan whose dying wish was made a reality by the director. "I’d rather not comment on that, if that’s okay. But, it was an honor to be asked. I’d rather not talk about it because it feels insensitive, but for that to have been a request was unbelievably touching."
