Josh Brolin is one of the best actors working in Hollywood today, but he's missed out on or turned down quite a few big roles over the years. The Avengers: Endgame star was eyed to play the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman by Zack Snyder before the filmmaker ultimately chose Ben Affleck, while Brolin actually turned down the part of Owen Grady in Colin Trevorrow's Jurassic World.
That movie would go on to break box office records, of course, but Brolin has no regrets about opting out of the reboot. In fact, he believes Chris Pratt was "the right guy" to lead that franchise.
"Jurassic World, with all respect to Steven [Spielberg], I could not picture me doing it," he told Happy Sad Confused (via SFFGazette.com). "I could not picture me being that guy. And I’m very, very happy, based on my decision, of what Chris [Pratt] does with it because I think Chris is the right guy."
"When I saw Chris in Guardians of the Galaxy, cause I knew him a little bit before that, and I was just like, ‘What?’ I mean, we all were," the actor continued. "I even said it to him, kind of embarrassingly, when I saw him at a party once, and I was like, ‘Dude, what the f*ck?' Cause I get really excited about other people doing well, it doesn't just have to be me. I think I knew from a big picture standpoint that somebody else would do a much better job than me."
As talented as Brolin is, it's hard to picture him playing Owen in the Jurassic World movies. If he had decided to accept the part, you have to believe the character would have been totally different, and it may have led to him missing out on playing Thanos in the Avengers movies and Cable in Deadpool 2. Plus, while Jurassic World broke box office records, Infinity War and Endgame later demolished those!
We can't help but wonder if Brolin's experience making Men in Black 3 may have played a part in him deciding not to lend his talents to another popular franchise looking to hit the reset button.
Pratt will return as Owen in Jurassic World Dominion on June 10!
