BOX OFFICE: JURASSIC WORLD Takes Yet Another Of THE AVENGERS' Records

It looks like Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is going to have to congratulate Universal Pictures and Jurassic World for a second time, because the Colin Trevorrow has now broken another significant record set by The Avengers in 2012. Which one? Read on for details...

After defeating Loki, Ultron, the Chitauri, who would have ever guessed that Earth's Mightiest Heroes would be taken down by dinosaurs? After beating The Avengers' opening weekend by debuting with $208.8 million, Jurassic World has now beaten another record held by the 2012 movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Jurassic Park follow-up is today expected to pass the $300 million mark, an amazing accomplishment in less than a week. How long did it take The Avengers? Nine days. Chances are that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will beat them both anyway!

Anyway, Jurassic World just needs to earn more than $103.1 million this weekend to top The Avengers' record for the biggest ever second weekend, but it faces stiff competition from Pixar's Inside Out, making it somewhat unlikely (a Pixar movie has never not opened at #1). Stay tuned to CBM this weekend for further updates. What are you guys planning on watching this weekend?

It was an enjoyable movie, if somewhat lacking in memorability. The Jurassic Park shirt wearing guy in the control room was my personal highlight when it came to the human characters, followed by Irrfhan Khan's eccentric Masrani and Pratt's Owen as a somewhat distant third.

I did like Bryce Dallas Howard, but there was one little detail that annoyed me to the point of disliking her character. I... just leave this here as a hint about what I might be talking:

I liked the movie a lot but that total is shocking. So much bank.

@ManCalledSting

Yeah, after a while everytime the camera caught her feet I was making "what, seriously?!" gestures in the theater. Not sure what they wanted to achieve by that, but they managed to annoy me and get some giggles from other parts of the audience.

But whatever, all in all I'm just happy that this guy is now a leading man in big, successful movies:

What I'd Star Wars doesn't break this record? Maybe then they'll regret not casting Pratt as Hans Solo

@Josh Wilding Star Wars is unlikely to break those "speed" records due to when it is being released. Christmasime releases tend to spread their box office out a bit more.

Really random, but I just saw Chappie. I'd give it a 7.5/10 That ending though!!

I feel like Star Wars is the most overrated thing in the history of life!

Also, I don't see Star Wars beating Jurassic World with a December opening. Holidays and the weather are big factors at this time of year, especially if the weather is as big a bitch as it's been the last couple of years. We'll see.

Damn, did not expect it to do this well. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a little bit butthurt about this. It's the power of dinosaurs, man.

@Battabing

Ehhh, I dunno. I think Star Wars is going to do BIG numbers. But I do have some beliefs that it's opening in season may cause people to watch the bootlegged/streaming copies. I think it'll still do good though. Kingsman and the Hobbit movies are good examples.

@PanochaLibre

Why would they regret not getting Pratt when they have the real Han Solo?

I think I'll buy a ticket for something else when Star Wars comes out and then just walk into Star Wars just so that knocks their ticket sale down $13.49. Star Wars isn't as good as everyone makes it out to be. They are actually pretty [frick]in boring.
