A press release from Apple TV+ has revealed that Monarch: Legacy of Monsters will get a second season, much to the delight of fans.

The press announcement states that Apple TV+ and Legendary Entertainment have also inked a new multi-series deal that includes multiple spin-off programs set within the MonsterVerse.

“‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ has left an indelible imprint on the hearts, minds and imaginations of audiences around the world, led by the brilliance of Chris, Matt, Kurt, Wyatt and the incredibly gifted and talented cast and creative team,” said Morgan Wandell, head of international development for Apple TV+.

We couldn’t be more excited for viewers to not only have the chance to experience even more thrills in season two, but to embark on epic, new journeys in the franchise as we expand Legendary’s Monsterverse.”

The upcoming season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is executive produced by showrunners and co-creators Chris Black and Matt Fraction, along with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell from Safehouse Pictures, and Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville and Jen Roskind.

Last year, prior to the show's renewal, series director Matt Shakman was a little more cautious about another season, stating that he didn't want to discuss future seasons until he gauge audience and fan reactions after the show had finished its current season. "We poured our heart and soul into this season. We love it. We're so proud of it. We hope people love it. If I could knock on some wood, I would hate to talk about future seasons until people have a chance to watch this one. And hopefully, they love it."

After dropping its first two episodes in a November 17, 2023 premiere, Monarch: Legacy of Monster concluded its 10-episode first season on January 12, 2024.

Currently, the show has an 87% approval rating from critics with an average score of 7.05 out of 10. The general audience also seems to love the show as it has an 87% audience score.

Fans have pointed out that the events of Godzilla take place in 2014, the events of Godzilla: King of the Monsters take place in 2019, and the events of Godzilla vs. Kong take place in 2024, suggesting time periods that could be explored in a second season.

As a result, now that the creative team has given the go-ahead for further seasons, Apple and Legendary have an abundance of storytelling space to explore in between each movie.

I enjoyed season 1. However, it is a bummer that there was no reference of it in GxK

@vectorsigma - What could they possibly reference? Season 1 ended on Skull Island years before the events of Godzilla v. Kong and Godzilla King of the Monsters.

@SonOfAGif - like characters from that show, , how time behaves in hollow earth. Just some coulson levels of references to make the universe feel larger.

@vectorsigma - I feel you; I hope future works make reference to it and to Skull Island on Netflix

@Slotherin - the time dynamics in the series wasnt even considered in the movie, so yeah, it will be good if they make these consistent and get referenced

I wasn’t liking the show at first because of the lack of monsters but I do realise that’s probably the point. Despite being set in the MonsterVerse it’s meant to be a more human focused story. The show is called Monarch so it makes sense to focus on the people connected to Monarch.

@tb86 - It's focused on human-drama because of CGI budget restrictions for a streaming series. They simply have no other choice. 🫤

@SuperiorHeckler - makes sense.

I still need to see the show but congrats to the cast & crew!!.

For a spin off show , I kinda would like to see the impact these monsters have had on people outside the US.

@TheVisionary25 - tbf, this show also follows Japanese characters.
With that said, I'd love to see a variety of people shown impacted as well.

"Multiple spin-offs"??? 🤨

Yeah. Can't even begin to imagine just how watered-down that will eventually become... SMH

I hope they steer the Monsterverse back my to a more serious tone looked Godzilla 2014.

@JobinJ - I hear ya! The original 2014 movie doesn't even seem to exist in the same universe any longer with the rainbow neon-color buffoonery of GvK and GxK: New Empire. Unfortunately, $130+ million dollar toy-commercials is what the general audience is satisfied with. 🫤

@SuperiorHeckler - respectfully gotta disagree... It's a tonal shift for sure but it's also a progressive evolution from each installment.

However, I do believe that tone still can be used if done right and still fit to do so.

@SuperiorHeckler - yeah. Low IQ audience pandering.

The show was shockingly better than expected - would have liked more 1950s focus but Kurt Russell is always welcome.

I liked the father/son older/younger gimmick - I figured it would suck and it didn't.

I knew better than to expect balls out monsters on streaming content - Apple isn't as dumb as Disney when it comes to wasting money or outkicking your coverage on streaming CGI as a result, the 135 seconds of Godzilla actually WAS Godzilla.
