28-year-old actress Jing Tian may not be too familiar to US audiences yet, but she is most definitely a star in her native China, having featured in numerous movies and TV shows over the past 8 years or so. Now, she's set to appear in both Kong: Skull island and The Great Wall, and Legendary has announced that she's also booked a role in the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's divisive monster-mash, Pacific Rim.

No details on who Tian will be playing were provided, but chances are she'll be suiting up as a jaeger pilot with John Boyega's new lead character. They’ll both join Suicide Squad‘s Scott Eastwood and the recently announced Cailee Spaeny.

Pacific Rim 2 (possibly subtitled, "Maelstrom") will be directed by former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight, and is scheduled to hit theaters on February 23, 2018.

Was Del Toro booted? Or did he leave to do something else?

More mecha movies please and thank you.

No robots though, that's boring. Human piloted mech suits.

Oh another Asian woman getting roles in Hollywood. Pretty sure she would fare better than the three Asian men in the first film lol. At first I was pretty excited about this sequel, but this casting remind me of Independence Day 2 and Transformers 4.
