LOST Actor Ken Leung Shares Details On The Spinoff That Never Was Featuring... Miles And Sawyer?

Although the ending proved to be highly divisive, Lost will go down as one of the most popular and successful TV shows of all time. While a return to that mysterious island is probably long off the table at this point, it's now come to light that a unlikely spinoff was discussed.

Actor Ken Leung, who played Miles Straume from season 4 on, revealed that a spinoff show focusing on Miles and Josh Holloway's James Ford, aka Sawyer, was considered at ABC.

"I know there was an idea being kicked around where Miles and Sawyer would have a True Detective-style spinoff, but that would be so much its own thing that it wouldn’t feel like continuing Lost," he said during an interview with The Independent when asked about a possible revival. "But on the face of it, sure. There’s nothing about Lost where it’s like, 'I never wanna do that again.' So yeah, maybe. I would love to go back to Hawaii. When I think of Lost, I don’t think of the show as much as I think of Hawaii. But I guess it depends on where they wanted to take it and who was coming back."

Sawyer and Miles became friendly when some of the islanders infiltrated the Dharma Initiative, and they'd later partner-up as LAPD detectives in season six's "flash-sideways" narrative. We assume this would have been the basis for the spinoff, but since those flash-sideways scenes were ultimately revealed to be playing out in a sort of purgatory, it seems like an odd premise!

The conclusion of Lost - when all of the main characters met in the afterlife and ascended to heaven together - was widely derided, and is still considered one of the most disappointing series finales of all time. Creators Damon Lindelof and J.J. Abrams and showrunner Carlton Cuse have often been asked about a possible sequel series, but don't seem to have much interest in revisiting the show.

What did you guys make of Lost overall? Would you be up for some kind of spinoff? Drop us a comment down below.

You have to have a certain level of intelligence to enjoy the LOST series finale.

@RorMachine - you shouldn’t have to ask this if you’re in the camp that understood what the writers were doing with the finale.

@eddyxx - I understood what they were doing... scrambling to come up with an ending after years of making up the story as they went with no clearly defined conclusion in mind.

I didn't even dislike the final season, but the ultimate reveal was just plain lazy, and made zero sense given what we'd already seen play out over the course of the previous seasons.

Lost actor? Well I guess they found him if he’s being interviewed 😂

How about doing a new show that sees the same actors, in new roles crashland in a different enviroment?
Later it turns out it's the original characters trapped in the island's core while Ben fights Hurley in the real world for control over the island (yet again)

The first two seasons were top notch TV. Writers strike impacted the first half of season 3, but then it got back on track. “Not Penny’s Boat”, both Desmond-centric episodes, “We have to go back”, so many iconic moments. I think it’s was mostly good up
until that final season.

I didn’t hate the last one or the finale, it just became clear that the writers never had an overarching plan and the explanations to the mysteries didn’t land.

I’m ok with the “flash sideways” in the final season all being more or a less a purgatory situation and then all meeting in the afterlife. It was the island stuff that didn’t hit the mark.

Funny how those same writers have gone on to continue doing the mystery box trope so many times. Other than Lindeloff doing The Leftovers, their track records are not great.

@mountainman - the writers strike was during the 4th season. The only season I didn’t like was the final season but the finale was cathartic enough that I still have pleasant memories of the series.

@eddyxx - no, it was the third season.

@mountainman - 5 and 6 are actually my favorite seasons.

@eddyxx - It was season 3. That’s why they had to split it into 2 parts. There was the first 6 episodes, largely seen as the low point in the series (the Jack tattoo episode), then the second half that seemed to really ramp up the lore. I remember it quite significantly as I was experiencing some major life changes at that time.

@thewanderer - 4 was mine. I loved the idea that some of them got away and the problems weren’t solved. 5 was good too. Loved the Sawyer stuff. And I appreciate some of 6. A lot of it actually. That Richard flashback episode was super cool. I just hated the way some of the mysteries were explained so it brought the overall season down a bit. That being said, the character stuff was very well done for the most part.

@mountainman - I truly lived them all (it’s my favorite show of all time), but I’d go:

5
6
4
3
1
2

@thewanderer - It was mine too. I can’t say it still is, but it was the first show that got me into TV. Participating in message boards, theorizing, getting into fan communities.

If I had to pick an order, which would be tough, I’d go:

4
1
5
6
3
2

But it’s tough. I liked about 90% of the whole thing. Some didn’t land. But most did.

Do you actually do research before you post something?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007–08_Writers_Guild_of_America_strike

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_(season_4)

Check the air dates and the articles.

Also the strike did not start til the fall of 2007. Lost season 3 ended in May of 2007. The second half of season 3 was at the beginning of 2007…so how could that have effected the 3rd season?

@mountainman - same! I mean I watched tv in the 90’s and early 00’s, but Lost really changed how I watched TV, and also really changed how TV was made. Networks spent much of the next decade trying to repeat Lost’s winning formula and it can be credited for some of the things tv does today, including truncated seasons. Lost was one of the first (if not the first) network shows to abandon the 23 episode seasons.

@bobevanz - A comic set in this world could be cool actually. One of the best original sci-fi stories of the last 20 years.
