Lost: Episode 6:12 Everybody Loves Hugo

Lost: Episode 6:12 Everybody Loves Hugo

Well, everybody may love old Hurley, but I seriously doubt everyone loved this mental episode! Head on over to Earths Mightiest for the review...

After a run of a few very good eps, Lost kinda [frick]ed up with this one. The entire episode isn't bad taken as a progression of the story but individual character choices are baffling..and not just in a usual Lost mysterious kind of way, in a "holy shit the writers were high as kites" kind of way...

The Hurley/Libbey stuff was a little long winded but as a whole, I thought it was great episode!

The question is, did Desmond run Locke over to remind him or as revenge for "Locke" throwing him down that well because he can somehow control both his actions on the island and in the flashsideways!?!

So many bloody questions..! :P

ROR: Lol, I just had a proper read of it - great review as always man! :) I agree that the whole whispers explanation was a little weak...as you said, why would they always turn up when the Others did!? I'd rather that they just not explain some things rather than be lazy!

The biggest problem I have with this season is the fact we havent seen enough of the excellent Mark Pellegrino as Jacob! It's the same with Supernatural - he hasnt done enough as Lucifer there either!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 4/14/2010, 8:58 PM
Personally I got a kick out of seeing the two of them back together, even if it is in another "reality" or whatever. Hurley has gone through so much crud. I really want to see him happy.

@ Josh: I agree. Traditionally the whispers always seemed to accompany or herald the presence of some of the Others.
And who can ever forget that early one Rousseau said that she had not seen the Others, but heard them whispering.
Of course that was bull. She certainly saw Ben swipe Alex well enough!
Maybe the ghosts are warning people about the Others somehow.Aww hell. Yep it's weak. :(

I thought this episode was great. The only thing that bothered me was when Jack hanged back and let Hurley talk to Locke by himself before stepping out of the bushes. That was not very Jack-like of him.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 4/14/2010, 9:11 PM
Mmm. Guess I just assumed everyone would have issues with the Illana explosion and some of the other sillier stuff. Like i said in the review, overall it moved the story along and Hurley is always good value, I dunno, it just didn't work for me that much.

@ Elephant: There are some sci fi elements to Lost. And sometimes they cover Sci Fi films on this web site. So stfu
Vital
Vital - 4/15/2010, 5:18 AM
elephant, stfu. Please? Typing in caps isn't going to make your stupid opinion any better btw. As a matter of fact, log off, you have temper problems obviously, and you need to cool off buddy. Take a fury fighters nap. Thanks.

Anywho, I liked the episode too, I don't know why they even explained the whispering, there is like 20 other more important things I'd like to know first lol. I was kind of surprised to see Michael though. So why exactly did Unlocke throw Desmond in the well? To keep him away? Desmond might be a weapon against Unlocke and that scares him?

Oh and about your mini theory (I didn't read the whole thing just your guys' comments) about Desmond trying to kill Locke was either A)He was getting revenge against Locke for Unlocke throwing him in the well in the other life/reality. The reason why Desmond is now all calm and happy go lucky all of a sudden is because he is going back and forth between realities or at least knows what's going on in each, which explains why he is always smiling and he was smirking the entire time before he actually hit Locke with the car so he KNEW something. OR B)Locke is dead, so his alter reality Locke must die too?

You know what would be crazy and rad is if in killing "real Locke", it somehow made the dead Locke on the beach come back to life. Thus, Locke fighting the UnLocke to replace Jacob. Slim chance of this, but then again, this show is kinda crazy so maybe it's not too far off lol.

I feel like there aren't enough episodes left to explain things. Like if there is a happy ending, I'd like to see the last episode be them being with whoever they are supposed to be with from the beginning etc. Like Hurley and Libbey are together, maybe Jack and Kate, or Kate and Sawyer?, Jin and Sun, Sayid and that woman (married to his brother), Charlie and Claire (my favorite couple/friends), Desmond and Penny, Miles and his father, Charlotte and Faraday, Locke and that woman he was with, hell, I'd even take Richard and Jacob as a couple lol.

Well i just started to watch Lost. It's pretty good. But i need a better site that will allow me to just watch them without downloading them. The ones i'm using all work with "megavideo" or something. They have a time restriction per day which sucks ass. Do you guys know of any better sites??? And if they have it HD it would be even better. Oh and i live in Canada so the US ones are flippin' me the finger :((

elephantknowsbest- At least we can agree on the fact that Welling sucks ass right? ...Right?

@ elephant: don't like it, don't read it. These are the type of stories you're going to see here. If you can't accept that, get the f%ck off the bus.

@Ror I laughed my a$$ off when she blew up. I personally didn't like how they introduced a new main character in the final season. Granted I was more interested in the other stuff going on in the ep (Locke throwing Desmond in the well), but I thought it was a good ep in the middle of a bunch of kick ass ones.

Do they have Netflix in Canada? You can watch them all except for the current season on there

But cmon, they already did the exploding character that wasn't careful with the dynamite! Thats just ridiculous! At least let her go out like the warrior that she is. I just thought it was a bullshit way to drop a character that they had no more use for.

Shaman, try this site..

@antz1104

Yea Ilana's explosion was stupidly hilarious!

And I thought the episode was pretty boring compared to what we have had in the last few weeks. Although it was obvious Michael Bay was secretly directing the episode, constant explosions! I thought when Desmond hit Locke that he was going to explode too! lol

Same with me, I realize I'm a bigger LOST fan than most of you guys, but still I will defend it with all my heart haha. Illana blowing up like that was purposefully stupid and sudden. Rather than "just finding an excuse to kill of a character they have no need for", it was meant to be ironic. Ben said it best when he said that it makes him wonder what they island will do to all of them once it's done with them. It proves they are not afraid to kill off major characters and the suddenness makes the show less predictable and makes it more realistic and true to something that could happen in real life, rather than watching it and going "wow, this is scripted" like most other shows.

All in all, it keeps us thinking, "this could happen to any of them." Is it once their purpose is served? Or just because she was stupid with dynamite? I guess we'll hopefully find out. But the fact that she was a messenger of Jacob and died like that really does mean something. She isn't protected just because Jacob sent her.

As for the answers, I think the two timelines will converge in the next episode or two, and that means the slow build up we've been having will really start to pick up into big events and answers. At least they're not just throwing stuff out haphazardly because they don't have time left. It's been centered on character development so far, and that's what LOST has always been about and what makes it great.

@ Ror: I understand how you feel man. She was a good character and now we are cheated out of seeing how she would have developed. That part sucks.

But about the blowing up part itself, ok yeah it did happen to somebody else. But the fact is that that somebody else was doing the exact same stupid thing she was: messing with old dynamite that has been exposed to the elements. And why was she doing it? Because she wanted to blow somehting up. And the only way she knew of to blow something up wassss.... yep dynamite from the Black Rock. Thus boom goes Illana. Nadya got hit by a car, and now so did sideways Locke, but nobody is saying that's silly. It's the same deal really.
The same fate shared by two diffeent people in the exact same situation as each other is not really all that far fetched.

So I agree that it was dissappointing to see her go. But in the story, it makes sense.

What doesn't make any sense to me was that all those Losties agreeing to go after the dynamite even after knowing what happened to Arzt and Illana! Brilliant. Hell's bells Jack saw it with his own eyes but he's still just like "der der der let's get some dynamite duh huh"
They all just agreed like it was a a fricking beer run. No prob.

ANY reasonable person would say "NO HELL NO I AINT GETTIN NO DYNAMITE" There's your poor writng.

OdinsBeard - 4/15/2010, 12:43 PM
Ror@ well given that dead people are popping up left and right - not to mention an entirely seperate reality where everyone is alive - im sure we haven't seen the last of Ilana. no one dies unless jacob wants it. maybe the entire time she was "training" it was for something that she will do after her death via hurley or a task to be completed in the flash sideways.

Darth@ Jack's a Candidate- he lit a fuse and sat there and watched it burn out. i don't think he's afraid of being killed by the dynamite lol. and thats what i thought when ilana showed Richard the sticks. they were all sweaty and i was like "DAMN! oh wait- none of them can die so it'll be ok" - WRONG! lol

elephant@ shut the [frick] up dude. i love lost. i love comics. i love movies and i love the people on this site. so if we get to talk about lost with each other then that is awesome! you should really not worry about clicking on links that take you to things you don't like. you might lead a lot more fulfilling life.

my theory has been that real Locke will take the place of Jacob and contain the evil within himself. keeping the balance of good and evil alone on the island.
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 4/15/2010, 1:04 PM
Yeah, OB but obviously you can't tust that! That's the point.. there obviously is no known governing principle to who gets this protection fro Jacob. I am sure we all thought Illana had it. Heck I bet Illana thought she had that but just look at how that turned out!

You can not count on Jacobs intervention every time. You just can't. There are too many variables and also... Jacob is recently deceased! Maybe he can't use his voodoo powers as well now that he's pushing up daisies! Ya think?

Darth@ look what i said to Ror above my response to you - i don't think we've seen the last of ilana! i bet we'll get another flashback of that scene of her in the hospital with jacob he'll say she has to make a sacrifice or that she has to die or something. even so - treat dynamite like its [frick]ing dynamite and be [frick]ing careful! lol. i also thought richard was a little over bearing in this ep. at first i thought it was cool that we was all freaked out cuz jacob was dead but now it just seems out of character for a 170 year old man to be yelling at people as much as he does and repeating the same thing over and over.

BillyBlack@ i see it on every Lost forum. "people still watch this show? wow. this show is so stupid i don't even care anymore" alright then - stop caring, why don't you and leave us alone! lol. it's not like we're gonna be like "oh man elephant is right! what have i been doing this whole time??? i thought i was watching a show i really liked but this person just opened my eyes! wow i can see it all so clearly now! lost sucks!"

Lost is the shit!

super@ yeah i can only look at so many green lantern equipment trucks before that gets old! i wanna theorize!

next week should be a locke/jack episode which should be freaking fantastic! not that people are doing it here but im seeing a lot of hate about the flash-sideways. i love it! i don't think they're wasting time at all. i think the flash-sideways will be the key to defeating MiB- either they'll trap him in it and that will be the avenue for real locke to come back to the island and totally mess up MiB's plan.

theres plenty of time left for them to give us all what we want - so far we've gotten answers about the smoke monster/dead people showing up on island, the whispers, the black rock, the numbers and a great metaphor for what the island is. all i need now is some back story on Charles and Eloise, the purge (which could fit into a charles/eloise episode) where MiB and Jacob are from (i stumbled upon a small spoiler that assures me we'll get that answer) and the ghost of Christian Sheppard. all of those can easily be answered and when they are we'll be able to fill in the rest of the blanks upon a second watch i guarantee it.

(damn i can ramble on when it comes to lost. thanks to whoever took the time to read my post!)

I always thought of myself as more of a dick than an asshole. But you're entitled to your opinion.

I joke around a lot. Some people don't appreciate the humor. I just happen to think people who have to say that they're a bigger fan of something than everyone else is either what I would call insecure, or in elementary school. But that's just me. Maybe you are the "bigger LOST fan", but that's kind of like saying you're the "World's Greatest Grandpa". Impossible to qualify and sounds completely ridiculous.
