Well, first off I must say that I was very disappointed. The episode was a good one from a certain perspective(good performances, good story etc) but as for what the writers promised to reveal with this one..waaaaaay off.

It begins with a pregnant woman shipwrecked on the island. She is rescued by another woman who puts a halt to all of the questions the pregnant woman(and we) want to know by saying "every question will only lead to more". How true...

after watching this episode i no longer thing that the man in black and jacob represent good and evil i think they are Life and Death, that is why nether of them seem to be all good or all bad, because with life and death there is good and bad, and jacob (representing life) is mainly good but there seems to be something about him. look at what he can do he gave Richard everlasting life and his temple can restore life to the dead, whereas the Man is black can turn into the smoke monster and kill anything in his path or can turn into people but only if they themselves are dead.

The first time I saw it, I was like... wtf just happened? A fairy tale with magical waterfalls and sorcery??

Then I rewatched it. Once, and again, and again, and again..

Now I just..love this goddamn episode, the struggle of the characters resembling the coming of the losties to the island... the source... the innate knowledge.. and the ending with the sad music and the flashback is.. like.. I dont know what I'm going to do when the story ends.

I highly recomend to hear the Geronimo Jack's Beard podcast about this episode, it really helps to understand a lot of the mothers true intentions..

I thought it was a good episode but what I really wanted to know, which was not answered, was what exactly are Jacob's powers. I mean he is supposedly more powerful than MIB so what can he do, White Smoke maybe? I just wished they revealed that in this episode.

I also would like to have seen some sort of timeline, like how long did the "mother" or Jacob hold the title of protector of the island.

Finally, I want to know what all the rules are in this "game" that Jacob and MIB have been playing for the past few centuries.

So I feel like I have MORE questions now than before!

-What power do the gaurdians really have? Did the mother really kill all those ppl? How?
- So their mother just says they can't hurt each other, so they can't? This leads me to....
- ....so did Jacob's brother come back out in the form of the monster or did pushing him in release it? So Smokey won't hurt Jacob b/c his mom told him not to?
- What does the heart have to do w/ anything? For being full of good it really let something nasty out.
- Lastly: Why The F%ck can't he leave the island while Jacob lives?! He got really damn close and his mom had to stop him!!

They better have more flashes stuck in during the next two weeks to fill some gaps dammit.

Been looking forward to reading this! First off, great review as usual ROR! :)

I have to agree that this was a very poor episode. I was expecting a lot of revelations but when you think about it, we got nothing. I'm sure the light coming from the island and Jacob's involvement in the characters lives will be revealsed so I'm not too worried about that but the whole thing just left me with more questions than answers!

The man in black created the wheel to get off the island how? Because he's special. What a crappy explanation! We didnt find out how that light turned him into the smoke, who built the statue Jacob lived in, why they actually need to protect the island or dozens of other things that I was expecting to find out!

The only good thing we learnt from this one was a better understanding of why the smoke mosnster wants off the island. However, we didnt need 40mins just for that! The whole Adam and Eve thing felt forced as well...IGN's review pointed out that Jack actually said the remains looked 40-50 years old so I find it hard to believe the show's creators were planning all this from day one!

In fact, as much as I love Lost, I'm now more convinced than ever that they're always been making it up as they go along!

josh@ your making it up conclusion is a main focus of my rant. and just for the record alot of people are confused about jacks statement. what he said was it takes 40 or 50 years for CLOTHES to degrade like that. he never said the bodies were 40 to 50 years old. that still doesnt make sense cause they were wearing the clothes they died in which would make the clothes 2000 years old, but again, more questions that wont be answered. just wanted to clarify the jack statement since alot of people on the web keep pointing it out.

i just wanted more information on the statue jacob lived in and maybe a name for the black smoke monster, i personally thought this episode wasnt good and at the end when you seen jacob put the stones in the bag and then it flashes to jack and kate, i really thought that was a slap against the face cause lost has never done that before you had to piece things together but it seemed like there were making sure this time that everyone remembers that there was a reference to it in the first season, i mean if you want to get reference watch the show for god sake its not that hard and the acting was really bad aswell. plus does this mean that the black smoke went back and installed that wheel?, to many un answered question posed by trying to cover there asses by cover one story

pasted from earthsmightiest:

im wondering how much better this episode would be recieved if the light in the cave were just a little bit softer. it looked so cheesy and so lame it took me right out of it. and because that is the reason the island must be protected, a lot was riding on it's reveal. (im wondering if that is where they built the temple?? over the cave) even tho it had been a long time coming - Locke saying in season 1 when he saw the smoke monster that he "saw a big bright light and it was beautiful" - it just just left me with an "eh" feeling.

i never much cared for adam and eve. i never thought it mattered who they were because hey! their dead! - tho if you just take it as 'the cave is the tomb of jacob's family' then i guess thats pretty cool.

all of the "reveals" they gave us i didn't have a problem with. i just had a problem with how they were represented. like the review said, good acting, good story, poor presentation. we would be alot more willing to accept the answers they gave us had they been presented in a much better fashion.

this just didn't feel like i was watching an episode of "LOST". the colors seemed off, the pacing was different, it seemed messy and unfocused. i couldn't shake that instinct while watching this. it seemed like they brought in special guest writers and directors to do this. this episode did not feel like it fit in with the rest of the series.

Ab Aeterno accomplished that feeling and was pretty much set up in the same way. except book ended by present-time scenes.

im not saying i could've done a better job from scratch but i don't know how one could read that script and go "yes. yes this is how we want to show people what we've been hiding from them for so long. this is the way to do it"

This episode was great in my opinion.
It's a TV show so i dont look for stellar performances. It's fantasy so again I dont look for authenticity.

But it answered what I was suspecting...MiB and Jacob are brothers.

I just want to know why MiB is speacial and can see the dead and know things in the first place.

I think it was a waste of an episode. The entire thing was a flash back, and it gave us more questions than answers. Why this, why that, and so on. I mean, they have 2 and 1/2 hours left, they better make up for it with this finale or people are going to freak the [frick] out lol. As much as I like the flash sideways in the season, I think there isn't time for them to put them in, they have a lot of ground to cover just on the island reality.

It really messes with your head!!! I think THAT was the whole purpose of the episode.

Jacob is not perfect and was never supposed to be! But he's the good guy because he believes in preserving the natural order of things (whatever that is).

Although Smokey's intentions are innocent is just messing around with things that are bigger than him.

It kinda reminds me of the infinity gauntlet of the marvel universe. It's too much power for one man to handle.

What I got from the episode is that this is a representation of the garden of Eden. Jacob's job is to protect the big tree in the middle of it.

Yes there are still a lot of questions that need answering but the last two episodes and whatever they put out after that will answer some of them.

Jacob had mommy issues just like Jack has daddy issues. Thought that was kinda interesting.

@ Televizion I don't think Jacob is the true dark one. He may have thrown the first punch both times aginst MIB but he had good reasons. He was defending/avenging his mother, which is what he now does for the island. But I do agree that Jacob definitely has a bit of an edge to him.

Thanks for commenting guys. What can ya say. Maybe we shouldn't have expected more from Lost..its just that because its so close to the finale I thought they would give more. If it is another BSG fiasco..although in saying that I actually partially like the final...I will ...do something very mean to my Lost poster!
