AQUAMAN Star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Lands A Lead Role In Lana Wachowski's THE MATRIX 4

It's been revealed today that Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has landed one of the lead roles in the next instalment of the Matrix franchise. The project has already brought back original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss, and while Laurence Fishburne's involvement remains unclear, this is obviously very exciting news.

No details have been revealed about the Black Mirror standout's role, but previous reports have indicated that director Lana Wachowski was looking to cast a young Morpheus so it's possible that's who Abdul-Mateen II will be playing.

Lana wrote the Matrix 4 script alongside Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell, and production is expected to begin early next year. That means we can probably expect to see it in theaters in 2021 or 2022 and it will be interesting to see how it comes together, especially after the last two instalments arguably failed to live up to the classic original.

This dude's on a meteoric rise. Aquaman, US, Black Mirror, Watchmen, Candyman, the next Aaron Sorkin film and The Matrix? Damn. Gotta respect the hustle.

like TMP3 said he was a bit wasted in AQ but he a solid actor ... but this is super interesting because are they implying Reeves isn't the lead ? cause it will follow the religious POV they had going of him coming back after revolutions .

@knocturnalzen10 - I think the fact that they say "a lead" and not "the lead" makes me think he'll be #3 on the call sheet, after Reeves and Moss. I hope he's given more to do in AQ 2, he's a solid actor; he's got a pretty prominent role in Watchmen that - if my profile picture wasn't enough of an indication - I'm excited as hell for

I think the time for a matrix sequel has come and gone. Plus it undoes the ending of the Matrix 3 which makes a bad film worse.

@Forthas - I kind of agree ... that was lightening in a bottle ... Keanu was on the comeback, the story was original, the effects were new and exciting. I’m not sure if that can be done justice.
